Davetheref Posted January 23, 2006 Report Posted January 23, 2006 Sorry, I know this is for a Fiesta but I'm sure more people look at the Galaxy forum (Anyway, I have a Gal). My son has a mark 6 Fiesta with the built in radio\cd player. In his wisdom, he decided to get a mate to fit some extra large speakers into the parcel shelf and his mate wired them up to the rear of the player connecting into the front speaker output cables. Neither his radio or cd now works and he just gets a sort of knocking noise coming from the left front and rear speaker. I have disconected all of the wiring that this cowboy put in and still the same. His radio has power and shows the stations tuned so it is not the code. Someone at my work says he may have blown the 'ICU's' on the unit by crossing the speaker cables. Can anyone out there confirm this and does it mean a new unit? Many thanks Quote
chromedome Posted January 23, 2006 Report Posted January 23, 2006 Have you tried completely disconnecting it and then powering it back up again. It may reset the unit. Quote
Davetheref Posted January 23, 2006 Author Report Posted January 23, 2006 Yep, tried that and since posting have been to Gates Ford and they confirmed that the unit has had its amp fried. Expensive lesson for my son. He wanted to buy another from Ebay but I talked him into going to Ford this time. Dearer I know but at least he will get some sort of gurantee. Quote
Guest chrisadams Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 Not suprisedAll Radios, CD's etc usualy have a max wattage writen on them somewhere and for good reason, if you want to add big speakers you will need a compatable amp and best to get it done by someone who knows what there doing Quote
MrT Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 Having speakers with a massive wattage rating would not harm an amp. It would only be having speakers with a very low impedance that could draw too much current and damage the amplifier. Quote
johnb80 Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 Or the way they were connected up. Connecting them in series with any existing speakers would be safe, still better not to mess about if you're not sure. Regards - JB Quote
gregers Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 give the bill to his m8 and say we expect something at least Quote
Davetheref Posted January 25, 2006 Author Report Posted January 25, 2006 Apparently. Its an ex mate now. My son has also found out now that he is not the first to get f****d by this guy. Anyway, he has now getting Gates Ford to sort it just to get it back how it was. He's been told it could be as much as Quote
