Steve S. Posted January 20, 2006 Report Posted January 20, 2006 Hi, I've only done a side at a time when I retro fitted a set of roof-rails.This was pretty straight forward, but if you're going to drop it completely you will require a willing assistant! Tips....I suppose: 1.Clean hands! 2.Have a packet of pillar trim clips handy. 3.When removing seat belt buckle trim covers, prise them from the back to avoid breakage! 4.Take seats out. 5.Work methodically..if that really needs saying! Best of luck! Steve S. Quote
GSMGuy Posted January 20, 2006 Report Posted January 20, 2006 Not done it on the Gal, but on my ML - which has the same sort of fibreboard backed headlining, all I did was cut a slit in the h/L long enough to get a piece of 8mm plywood, approx 300x300mm slid in, then I fixed the flip down screen to this as a base, I would not recommend not fitting a support as the screws WILL come out if you screw direct to the headlining, remember - once it is flipped down, the screen will exert quite a lot of leverage on the base as it moves when driving.... Also, I used a cable management tool (fish) to feed the cables up the pillar by the passenger seatbelt, so that made it a lot easier. Went for a VIETA in dash DIN sized DVD/MP3/DIVX/MPEG player in black to match the radio (ML had double DIN, I just removed the cubbyhole below the CD player and the DVD fits perfectly and looks great) 5 pairs of cordless BOSS headphones from Ebay later, and nothing but silence from the rear seats.... TIP - don't bother with a TV tuner, I got one supposedly designed for mobile digital DVB, was ok when stationary, as soon as you go over about 15mph the picture goes... Ok if you live in London I suppose... If anyone wants any pics, prices or links, let me know.. Mike Quote
gregers1 Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 i have to agree with gsmguy,i took my lining out wot a pain in the ar*e to replace my sunroof, you can do by yourself, undo everything first carefully remembering where all the bits go,either put gloves on or wash ur hands, drop the lining onto the seats and gently guide the lining out of the rear hatch(MAKE SURE ITS NOT WINDY)just as i done mine the wind got up,i ended up running down the road with it so it wouldnt kink, and make sure you put it somewhere SAFE,if i remember right there should be a bar at the back of the sunroof that you should be able to use,or use panell adhesive and glue some ply to the roof use a deadman(support)so it drys under pressure then you can fix the screen to that, bear in mind dont use an inch screw for half inch ply :) ,once youve done all that its time to replace the lining,i found that working from the rear hatch(once youve allingened everything)was the best way rather then working on 1side then the other, the only prob i had was where it meets the windscreen seems they used some form of mastic to stick itto the top,i just used double sided (BLUE PETER MOMENT)tape.hope the above is of any use to you,AND BE PATIENT AND TAKE YOUR TIME coz you could be without your car for the weekend.coz my missus wanted to go shopping when i was half way through(BLESS HER) regards gregers Quote
