Halloween Man Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 Hi , I discovered the cause of a leak in my 2002 Galaxy, when I lifted the carpet last night. In the floor directly behind the front passenger seat (LHS) , there is a circular hole about 1 inch diameter , which water was coming in. The grommet / plug obviously got lost ... When I tried to get a grommet from Ford , they were not aware of this part.Has any body come across this ? Thanks,Dan Quote

Maybe the car had been worked on by one of mechanics we used to have at work. Many years ago I took a Viva van in with a leaky windscreen that was filling up the footwell, their solution was to drill a hole in the floor to let the water out  Maybe the hole in an alternative solution to blocked scuttle drains :) Quote

In my experience its unusual for water to travel uphill...... :) More likely its the washer pipe for the rear wiper that has come apart - to test just use the rear washer for a while and see if the water comes back, follow the washer pipe towards the front of the footwell right upto the bulkhead - it has one or sometimes two joints which come apart. Another possibility are leaks at the front bulkhead seams or window/bulkhead. It is also possilby coming through the pollen filter and out through the floor heater vents, because of blocked scuttle drains. You can use duck tape to seal the hole - it may be easier and cheaper than trying get a grommett from your dealer  Quote
Halloween Man Posted January 20, 2006 Author Report Posted January 20, 2006 Thanks for the reply - Does the washer pipe run in a channel near the door (wrapped in black tape along with wiring ?) This is the only thing I can see running from the front of the car to the back. The spray of water from the front wheels seems to be the culprit for driving the water uphill !, however I would like to check the water pipe that you mentioned as well. Thanks again Quote
Halloween Man Posted January 20, 2006 Author Report Posted January 20, 2006 Another question - floor heater vents -The vent behind the handbrake , could water travel this far due to blocked scuttles ? It is this area (behind the handbrake) which is wet . Thanks...Dan Quote
