Hi, can anybody help please. I have a 1997 ghia, and my front heated windscreen has stopped working. Cannot find the relay to change it. Nothing matches the diagrams in manuals i.e Numbers on relays etc really not sure what to do, looking in manual it says that there maybe an addittional relay box but not sure if this is for my model and cannot find it if it is!! Have found relays in the central fuse box and also Aux fuse and relay box in engine but how do i identify them? I have looked behind central fuse box but could not find any relays. Please help me!!!

Many Thanks

If you do a search for "Relay 30" on the forum I am sure you will find the info you need.

Its an old problem one resigned to the MK1's and many of us have had similar problems.

Fuse F14 15A, Relay K164 fuse and F27 50A very top row far left, get right down in the foot well and look up under the dash to see it ;) the fuse box in the engine is the aux fuse box, the additional one is tucked up behind the dash above the fuse board and without getting down in the foot well you cant see it fully  my heated screen relay is in the one inside the car! but as I fitted it myself :D I know which one and where it is :D

if the fuse and relay are ok check the cables to the screen, there are three, two feeds and one earth, the feeds are under the trim covers on the windscreen pillers, the earth is up behind the head lineing behind the clock/sunroof switches, if you have had a new screen recently or work done in this area? they may not have connected this back up?

That reminds me I must get a heated screen fitted  oops big stone chip ;)

Very much on the same theme.....

I noticed that whilst out and about yesterday, there appeared to be a problem with only the rhs of the windscreen demisting, with the other side (exactly 1/2)

remaining relatively misted. The question therefore is, whether the heater element is in two seperate halves, with seperate feeds ,fuses, relays etc.and thus a one -sided" failure" as described is possible, (VR6 I notice you said there were two feeds behind the A pillars) or whether I should be looking for another cause of the one-sided misting up, eg blower performance, dampness(pollen filter on this side??) etc. etc.Comments as always most welcome!

Regards to all,

Steve S.

The heating elements are in two parts, but with only one set of wiring so the likelihood is a corroded or failed connector on the non-working side of the screen.
