Guest kenji4444 Posted January 16, 2006 Report Posted January 16, 2006 Hi, Had our '03 2.3 auto checked in for service, at a friendly independent garage. Just before this was done, engine warning light came on and gearbox stopped selecting 4th gear - would go nicely up through to 3rd, then stick in 3rd on cruise. I thought, OK, it'll be sorted on service. Trouble was our friendly local could only diagnose down to a faulty gearbox solenoid or wiring. He suggested, and we just got it done today, getting it checked out on Ford dealer's WDS (or whatever diagnostics version Ford now using). Anyway, dealer narrowed it to most of the main gearbox connector pins being slightly corroded but particularly, probably because they're corroded, one pin is pushed back into gearbox and presumably not connecting; this on the 'gearbox half' of the connector. How it came to be pushed back is anyone's guess, 'cos certainly it aint been tampered with whilst we've had it! (Car was a Ford-owned vehicle before we got it 18mnths ago)! I just can't get the logic that this pushed back pin should suddenly occur and cause the selection fault, anyway, I'll just accept it! So finally, the question; anyone heard of this before and does the gearbox have to come out to correct? Cheers. Quote
chromedome Posted January 17, 2006 Report Posted January 17, 2006 I would think that the dealer has pushed this connector in whilst they were fiddling with it. Anyway, looking at the year of your vehicle surely this should be rectified under the 3 year manufacturers warranty. Quote
