Guest SA Intruder Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 Fairly cheap, and it is self adjusting. You can get from Ford/VW/Seat dealer, or German/French/Swedish, amongst others. They will need to know which model you have.. Quote
Guest stu Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 went too ford dealer (teesside) for part Quote
Guest tazzy62 Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 i just had exactly the same problem with the brake failure lights staying on, no brake lights and the glow plug light flashing. thanks to this info i was straight onto the problem and it cost just Quote
Guest Turbo Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 My glow plug light was flashing when I first bought my Galaxy. When I spoke to a mechanic at the local dealers (very helpful too ) he said I should check my brake lights. They wern`t working but it was just a bad connection in the wiring at the back of the car. Dave-G Posted November 1, 2003 Report Posted November 1, 2003 I dont wish to alarm you, but this occurred with my old allhambra tdi,at times my throttle "stuck" at its rev's(once when overtaking a lorry on a single carriageway - approaching a bend),and a couple of times at idle. This was at the same time that I had MAF prob's referred to elsewhere, and I was told that the maf prob occurrs with repetitive off-side brake bulb failure, and the brake switch. Of course they could have been two unrelated faults at the same time, but a guy at Volkswares in leicester said they seem related on more than 1 occasion. My glowplug lamp was also flashing~along with the red led in the driver door. Throttle resumed operation on engine restart. Hope it works out ok. Quote
Guest mstraxs Posted November 2, 2003 Report Posted November 2, 2003 HI Just to say this glow lamp flashing thing happens all the time to me if I am stuck in traffic with my foot on the clutch. Very common whilst waiting to get into busy car park. It has no effect on the car and my brake lights are fine. It just seems to be a glitch and I refuse to take the car in for them to plug it in and see. I have lived with it for 2 years and will continue to do so. After re-starting the car and moving off it goes out and all is normal. As I don't get stuck in traffic often this happens about 4 times a year perhaps. Very alarming at first as the hanbook says take it in straight away but honestly it is no worry Mark Quote
westie Posted January 3, 2004 Report Posted January 3, 2004 A word of warning. ......I have had 2 Galaxy's (both Diesels) and both have had numerous small, but niggling electrical problems, including the brake light switch failure. Thankfully, the flashing glow plug and failed bulb indicator alerted me to the problem.. If anyone has to change this switch, first they need to make sure that they know if its a 2 pin or a 4 pin type, my 1996 GLX had a black and blue switch, both were 2 pin, but my 1999 Ghia X only has one switch, which is a black 4 pin one.Secondly, as Tazzy has explained, the removal of the facia is pretty easy, but the switch removal is a bit more difficult. Not only is the interference fit very tight, but the metal bracket for the top screw in the fuse compartment is right above the switch.More importantly, this bracket (in my experience) has not been de- burred properly and can cause some very nasty cuts if you are not careful. Please bare this in mind, if (or should that be when!), you have to tackle this job. Quote
Guest ianock Posted January 3, 2004 Report Posted January 3, 2004 I 've come across this problem dozens of times, just remove the brake switch, pull out the plunger as far as you can & refit(no come backs to date & have always tested the switch which is fine). All that happens is the plunger is pushed to far in(possible due to heavy breaking?)no need to buy new switch but I suppose they are rather cheap.Earlier Galaxies had 2 brake switches, one for light braking the other for heavy braking/ABS/Cruise control inputs)later ones had these 2 switches combined into a single 4 wire switch. Guest DBAG Posted January 16, 2004 Report Posted January 16, 2004 Just had the same problem. Took the switch out, opened it up, sprayed some contact spray in, stretched the plunger spring, adjusted the plunger, and away we go! Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted January 16, 2004 Report Posted January 16, 2004 And, as above, it will fail again. Quote
Guest ianock Posted January 17, 2004 Report Posted January 17, 2004 Fit a new switch, will soon happen again! Quote
