liddlepig Posted January 14, 2006 Report Posted January 14, 2006 GuysI have just got my new Galaxy and have about four hundred keys :) Two for the Passenger and two for the driver side plus one for the ignition, neither of which works in any other door. The ignition key is the 'torch' type and that is all I have.So my first question. With the current locks, can you assemble the tumblers to work with one key or do you buy the door lock and tumbler with the key? (I only ask as i am sure with the older locks you used to be able to do something like this)Secondly,Anybody know of a good locksmith in the Reading, Berkshire area that can code me and cut another key, or is this a trip to the dealer :) many thanks for any help Kev Quote
Masked Marauder Posted January 14, 2006 Report Posted January 14, 2006 You won't be able to change the tumblers. Your options are: Buy and fit a whole new lock set and: take the PATS chip out of your current key and put it into one of the new keys and have a dealer program the other keys up as and when it is in for other work or take the PATS chip out and tape it to the top of the ignition barrel or Try to obtain the PATS pasword number (a four digit code that MAY have come with the car on a scratch off tab or on the car paperwork) from a dealer and use VAG-COM to program the new keys. Guest vr6galaxy Posted January 14, 2006 Report Posted January 14, 2006 If your going to get the Ai606 which will do the locking and you have at least a couple of keys that will open the drivers door, rear hatch, glove box and start the car! then dont bother just replace the front passenger side handle with a rear door handle and get a couple of new keys cut and coded into the system Quote
Masked Marauder Posted January 14, 2006 Report Posted January 14, 2006 If your going to get the Ai606 Did I miss something? I must get my Ai606 out my shed and fit it to something.... Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted January 14, 2006 Report Posted January 14, 2006 liddlepig is going to get one fitted a bit later in the new year, and as it will operate the locking system a cheaper option may be to delock the passenger door and invest the money saved in getting a couple of keys for the drivers door and ignition only :) Quote
liddlepig Posted January 14, 2006 Author Report Posted January 14, 2006 Thanks guys, The only thing with the keys is I have one and one only for the ignition. So does it look like a trip to the dealers to get another key and transducer and have them connect the diag unit up. I have looked through all of the docs and cannot find a mention of the code. Best options? Kind regards Kev Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted January 14, 2006 Report Posted January 14, 2006 A good locksmith should be able to help you? I had a mobile one cut and code me two new keys on my driveway :) hit the yellow pages and make a few calls if not it's down to the dealers Quote
morticiaskeeper Posted January 14, 2006 Report Posted January 14, 2006 Or fit a remote central locking unit like the Cobra 1046 and not worry about using keys to open up. then all you'll need is a spare ignition key Quote
liddlepig Posted January 14, 2006 Author Report Posted January 14, 2006 Anybody in the Berkshire area that has had the same done and can recommend a company? kev Quote
liddlepig Posted January 14, 2006 Author Report Posted January 14, 2006 VR6, when you had yours coded were they from the vehicles PAT system or a 'copy' of the transducer? BTW thanks for all the prompt replies, specially as I'm a Galaxy noob :) Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted January 14, 2006 Report Posted January 14, 2006 Not sure how he did it as I was work at the time :) apparently he plugged is computer into the car and did all via that :) so I would imagine he used VAG COM or something similar program? Quote
liddlepig Posted January 14, 2006 Author Report Posted January 14, 2006 Thanks. Found a locksmiths in the YP and have dropped them a mail. Will let you guys know the outcome. Kind regards Kev Quote
liddlepig Posted January 18, 2006 Author Report Posted January 18, 2006 Just to let you guys know the Locksmith came round to the house last night. Plugged in the system and read the ECU straightaway, cut two keys and programmed them in around 30 minutes. He charged me 90 quid which I thought was reasonable. Something he did mention was that he could sort out the locks on the doors so that they work on the ignition key, he has quoted me 2 hrs labour and parts, 70 quid in total :) Very reasonable so will give that a try as well. I will pass on his details here www.auto-locks.co.uk just in case anybody in the Berkshire area has problems Quote
