Hi All

Has anyone fitted a rear luggage cover to a Mk2 Galaxy any info would be helpful,

I have all the parts just need to know if you should remove the rear 1/4 panels to secure the mounting brackets.

That depends on wether or not the mounting plates behind the quarter panels are fitted? if you have to fit these? then I would say yes? as you have rivet the mounting plates to the body panels behind the quarter into the rear of the quarter panels ;) meaning no hit and miss job and odd holes in the panels showing through where you miss judged the cut

if you only have to mount the outer mounts where the actual load cover mounts into then if you hold them in place and mark around them and then cut inside the outline then no you shouldnt have to remove the panels ;) others have done it this way and been ok ;)

Thanks I thought that I would have to remove tha 1/4 panel do you know if the body is pre marked the position of the holes or would you happen to have a picture of the final position?

Went to the local Ford & VW dealers this morning an not one Galaxy or a Sharan with one fitted.

Thanks for the help.

Holes in the body panels are all pre drilled and waiting for you to mount the brackets to :) well they were on mine :)

John,

A while ago I did this in a Mk1 Sharan i had before the Gal. After i took away the 1/4 panels on both sides, the holes to rivet the mounting plates to the body work were there already and it's quite obvious if you hold the mounting plate over the holes (3 rivets per side if i recall well with the 2 at top and 1 at bottom).

The area's to cut out of the 1/4 panels can be seen on the inside of the 1/4 panels as there are lines pressed in the material and if you stay just within those when cutting out with a jigsaw, you should be OK.

Make sure you fit the 2 holders/mounts (the ones close to rear that you hook the luggage cover in so it doesn't roll back) correctly. When i had done mine, those mounts came out again and i had to take the 1/4 panels out again.

It transpired i needed a couple of o-rings that you slide over the 'legs' of the mount on the inside of the 1/4 panel that ensured the mount wasn't pulled out of the 1/4 panel again by the luggage cover.

Good luck m8!

Well got the job done one point to note is that the parts are a lot cheaper from your VW dealer.

Thanks to all who gave advice .
