I was wondering if you guys can help, have been getting an intermitant misfire from my 1998 TDI 110. It mainly happens in 3rd or 4th when putting the boot down ie to overtake, you get may be 1 or 2 "misfires" then seems to be ok.

Have taken it to a local garage that specialises in VW Audi's and he hooked it up to the comp. but no fault codes were stored. He sugested trying some redex diesel fuel cleaner in to try that but still doing it.

My Sharan had a new MAF fitted just over a year ago, & I have tried running it with MAF unplugged but still missing occasionally.

the only other thing I can add there was an incident last week where she lost all power at about 10-20mhp, would not rev but stayed idling. Switched ign off then restarted her carried on fine.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Could be water in the fuel filter, drain it with the drain tap underneath the filter....

I have to agree with Martin, my TDi had the same fault it was also the throttle pedal sensor a dirty track causes the ECU to "loose" the position and the limp home mode can kick in if it is not recovered by the system quick enough.

Check the reactions by using a good quality meter on the potentiometer in the pedal assembly and if the value changes rapidly during gentle movement then it will need replacing. There are two opposing resistance values within the sensor and both must be consistent or the ECU will see it as a fault.

The reason for it not being logged after the event is that if it occurs only once in a drive cycle it is saved as a "First Trip" and once the car has been switched off and then on again the event is erased if it does not occur again within the next drive cycle.

I have just tried the fuel filter.no real signs of water. Think I'll try the throttle pedel next when I get a mo!

Cheers
