Guest grezza Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 My windscreen washer has reduced to a dribble. There's no blockage as far as I can tell so I thought it may be the pump. Will the pump be fused?I've trawled through the handbook but can't find a thing but I can't believe it doesn't have a fuse. What steps should I take to get to the bottom of my problem? Cheers, Grezza. Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 Can you hear the pump? if so you have a blockage or your pump is dead! :o or either the jets are blocked or the pipes to them, pop the jets out and disconnect the hoses, do they flow free then? if they do try clearing the jets or replace them also IIRC there is a filter screen on the pump houseing in the washer bottle, this gets blocked with debri and slime  either remove the pump and poke the screen clear or stick the garden hose right down into the depths of the washer bottle and blast it clear  leave the hose running for a while and see if clears all the crap out? have fun and try not to get to wet :P Quote
Guest grezza Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 vr6galaxy,It's not the jets, I've disconnected them and the flow is still poor.Don't think I can hear the pump.Looks like I've a fun afternoon ahead! Thanks for the pointers. G. Quote
Guest j_mchattie Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 The washer motor spins either way depending on if the water is to be directed to the rear or front - one pump for both. Does the rear work? As above, slime is a problem Quote
gregers1 Posted January 8, 2006 Report Posted January 8, 2006 just a thought its not chucking water under your passenger seat is it? Quote
gregers1 Posted January 8, 2006 Report Posted January 8, 2006 plz ignor my last post didnt relize it was a mondeo Quote
Guest Markymark Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 Mine did this. Try looking at the washer jet hoses where they attach to the pump at the base of the bottle. They tend to be short and may become loose so most of the fluid will come out there instead of going up the tube to the jets. I just had to push mine back onto the nozzle on the pump and all was fine. Quote
Smilge Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 I know what it is ...... If it's a Mk1 or Mk 2 Mondeo theres an NRV (non return valve) in the pipeline just after the washer bottle(Never had a problem with the Mk3 so never checked to see if it had an NRV). It's a ballbearing type where the solidified screen wash tends to stop the ball from moving when the pressure builds up. If you take the NRV out you can clean it up and free the ball. The idea of the NRV is to prevent the fluid running back into the bottle enabling instant spray when you press the button. Quote
Stickman Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 How easy is it to find the NRV as i can only see the top of the washer bottle is this a 'get under the car' job? Quote
Stickman Posted April 19, 2007 Report Posted April 19, 2007 I've had a look and now have found that water is leaking from the roof down the centre door colum i take it the pipe runs in the roof space then, does anyone know if this is an easy job to get the interior panel/roof bit off? Thanks in advance. Quote
Stickman Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 For those who might get the same problem my mate found the pipe running in the roof space and at the column the pipe has a join and that had come apart and was a simple push it back together job,so i've got water to my rear screen now and not in the car. :-) Quote
