Masked Marauder Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 Easy peasy lemon squeezy. Look on the Ross-Tec site, there is a demo. Quote

marinabrid Posted January 5, 2006 Author Report Posted January 5, 2006 hi mm whats the best lead thingy to get for this ross download i seen that skpang is Quote
Masked Marauder Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 I bought a SKPang lead, USB one. Several of the features I wanted to use were not available in the shareware version. It is a usefull tool really, and if I never have another VAG car I will sell it on eBay. But I doubt that will happen. Quote
stairforce Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 Steven Langdale recommended Alpha-bid (on ebay) for the cable, just over Quote
marinabrid Posted January 5, 2006 Author Report Posted January 5, 2006 17 quid to 170 is some difference. jeeez which do you buy !the skpang says it turns the download from shareware to full , is it worth the extra.or do you get a cheep one and hope it works. Quote
Masked Marauder Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 The shareware is an old version of the software which is crippled in certain areas. Also you get no customer support with the shareware version. Quote
marinabrid Posted January 5, 2006 Author Report Posted January 5, 2006 from looking at it ross tech expect you to buy from one of there dealers in this country so you register and get support.it looks the same price ass the skpang unit so why would u get from pang if no support. i dont know. Quote
Masked Marauder Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 skpang make them under licence from Ross Tech and you get a licence certificate to register with Ross Tech for support. With skpang you get a full version of the product, it is the shareware version you get no support. Quote
Steven.Langdale Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 It all depends on what you're after. As stairforce said, I bought the cheap one off ebay. It's correct that it only works with the older shareware version of VAG-COM, but that may be all you need. All I required was a way of reading fault codes and resetting them (mainly to see why my climate control was flashing). If I need more advanced features, I may shell out for the expensive one, but Quote
El Dingo Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 If you are going to buy a 'full' version, I recommend buying from Ross-Tech direct, not from a distributor. Ross-Tech offers upgrades, etc. that don't apply if you bought from a distributor. And you won't get any hassle with activation codes when you change the PC if you buy direct. Quote
marinabrid Posted January 5, 2006 Author Report Posted January 5, 2006 all im wanting to do is get at this aux heater to check faults and clear codes and for future simple diagnostics. what u recommend ? Quote
Steven.Langdale Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 In that case, it sounds like you will be fine with the cheap cable. That, along with the freeware VAG-COM is certainly able to check fault codes and clear them. Steven Quote
marinabrid Posted January 5, 2006 Author Report Posted January 5, 2006 can that cheepo cable and shareware do things like testing the aux heater blower motor and fuel metering pump or will it just give faults ? Quote
GSMGuy Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 Martin, go for the SKPang cable m8 - it WILL save you more than it costs, ESP if your car ever need to go to a stealers! Mike Quote
Rallim Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 If you register the shareware version it will do most things, mine was able to clear the aux faults, and test the blower and pump. The shareware cost is 99dollars, which does get you software support but not hardware. I have also enabled the trailor lights warning indication and single door unlocking with it as well. Also when you register it you can use the measurement tracing. Gordon Quote
Masked Marauder Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 Can I also point out that the cheap leads that are available are most likely ones that opto-electronics, and the new software will not work with them, and this will continue to be the case. So if you don't have an official lead, in 5 years time when the software is on version xxx.x then you will still be using version 311.2 which is already over two years out of date. The current software is 512.2. So in the future if you change your car for a newer one then you might find your lead won't work. Quote
marinabrid Posted January 6, 2006 Author Report Posted January 6, 2006 HI i got a reply from cister saying that if you buy there lead and software its not support afterward becuase you using it on a ford. also that skpang was selling illegal copies of there hardware and contained illegal dongles and that there software would know this and render the lead useless with each future software upgrade they relaese. thats more otr less what the letter siad.so im no happier now.it appears you buy a lead and still you may not upgrade in future or get into all the modules such as the aux heater. Quote
Masked Marauder Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 Where did you get the info that SKPang kit is illegal copies? My SKPang lead came with a VAG-COM licence certificate that was registered with Ross Tech. Quote
marinabrid Posted January 6, 2006 Author Report Posted January 6, 2006 http://www.vag-com.co.uk/ i pasted that from a firm called cister. i went to ross tech and looked at there official dealers in the uk i sent cister an email and thats the reply that came back. i was asking themn aboot the different leads and software , i dont know much aboot this subject. Quote
marinabrid Posted January 6, 2006 Author Report Posted January 6, 2006 MANAGED TO CUT AND COPY MY LETTER AND REPLY FROM CISTER Thank you for your email. If you need a USB cable, you will be best suited with our "package D" - this is all you need to get running. Although our software and cable works with your vehicel, because it is a Ford and not a VW, it is deemed as 'not supported" by us in terms of help and support. So far we have sold units to many Galaxy and Cayenne owners without issue. Their owners have been able to communicate with the relevant aspects of their particular vehicle without incident. With regards SKPang, we understand that he is selling "illegal copies" of our hardware which contains "illegal dongles", possibly made in the far-east meaning that our software will recognise this and will render your cable usless with each software upgrade we release. Should you require anything further, please do not hesitate to contact us. marinabrid Posted January 7, 2006 Author Report Posted January 7, 2006 ibeen told from cister that skpang leads are ok as long as you have cetificate.but they dont work with v501 only 409.1 or earlier its all gobbledegook to me.have now tried the very latest bosch diagnostic machine and that the same as snap on cannot communicate with aux heater.luckily these checks not costing me but im not going to pay Quote

Thats bollocks, mine works with the latest software which is 511.3 or something. Anyone would think they were in competition with SKPang. SKPang is a UK based company, if they were not legit they would be shut down by no surely? Quote
