Guest dbpreston Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 My Galaxy V6, early 99 manual model, has started suffering from engine power loss since a couple of weeks ago.- had very few problems with this in the first 100k miles till now ... I've had a look around for power loss issues, but can't see anything similar with this engine. Symptoms are: - distinct lack of power when pulling away at lower revs esp when engine cold, and - seems worse when cold/damp weather - not good at all during recent frosty weather.- also noticing that when I accelerate quickly at 1500-2000 revs eg second or third gear the engine sometimes slows for a second before it recovers and pulls away.- although it is better at higher revs, I think there is less power than usual at higher speeds and motorways even when engine is warm - doesn't give the usual confidence when overtaking. The one thing that's changed just before this problem started - so I'm suspicious that there might be a connection although cold weather arrived about the same time so I can't totally exclude that - was I had a new front wiper mechanism installed a couple of weeks ago. Yes, saved up for that one, but I must say it has totally resolved my intermittent really-slow-wiper issue so no regrets. When the the wipers were fixed I guess the top of the engine bay could have been disturbed. I'll take a look at electrics at the weekend - HT leads etc - but I'd welcome pointers to things I should check out given these symptoms. Thanks - David Quote
MrT Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 I cannot remember the exact layout on the Mk1 galaxy but where the wiper tray is on the Mk2 there is the back of the air filter and the air pipes to the engine. In this lot is the MAF sensor and they could have pulled the cable off it and this would produce the effects you have. A long shot, but I did the same when trying to route a cable through the bulkhead. Quote
Guest Drewpal Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 Hi Presto! Preston boy :P Sorry to hear of your woes. I had the same problem about 3 years ago with my Gal. I tell you what, for some reason or the other one of the HT Leads was burnt away from the end that connects to the Plug. I bout a new HT Lead ( Quote
Guest dbpreston Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 Thanks for these ideas. Got out the 1000W torch and hey, the garage had disconnected the MAF cable to access the wipers and not plugged it back in afterwards.- at least I guess that was the MAF - it would be nice if there was a retail manual for Gal with VR6. The cable was just dangling down behind the engine. So just reconnected this and away we go. Seems totally fixed, but I have a long run up to Manchester next week to give it a thorough airing. I'll be keeping an eye open for dodgy HT from now on though. Thanks - David Quote
