I have a 2004 1.9 tdi Galaxt Zetec and I am in the process of fitting the MFD unit from a 2004 Ghia but after reading through some of the post's I was wondering about the settings of the Gala wire.

I have seen it in the settings menu but when selected it only brought up a bar which looks the same as the volume or bass settings and I was wondering if this is where the adjustment is done of if there is a page with more detail.

Also would anyone have a proper copy of the wiring so as I can check that every thing is ok and see if I can connect up my MP3 player.

Many Thanks

Hi John

The adjustment is done by pressing 3 and 6 togethere and then the flag button.

The menu you will see gives you the option of changing tyre size and pulse per revolution settings.

Hope this is what you want to know.

Good luck :P

Hi

You need to know what type of MFD you have first, before you start with your settings.

The easy way is to turn your pulse per rev setting as low as it can go, if the lowest digit is 12 you probably have an A or B version MFD.

Now if the lowest number on your pulse per rev setting is 8 you must have a C, D or G version MFD.

Your settings Only if using the GALA cable to feed MFD

A+B version MFD should be: Tyre size @ 2903/Pulse Per Revolution @ 12.

C,D,G version MFD should be: Tyre size @ 1935/Pulse Per Rev @ 8.

After setting the car press the END option and program a destination on your sat nav. ( Example: motorway services).

Take your car out for a drive on a long and almost straight road for approx 30 minutes.

Try and keep your speed steady and dont go over 60mph.

PS: for the first 10min your sat nav will be all over the place but after a while it will get better and better and if you check you tyre sizes again after the drive you will see that they have changed size automatically to accomodate your tyres wear and tear.

Hope this works.

Let me Know!

Thanks a lot for the info I Must have one of the latest ones as it will go down to 8.

I have only manage to take it a short run but it seems to be adapting the further I go,but I must admit compared to my TomTom it's crap as far as the detail and zoom levals are concerned on the TomTom you could see the road names on the screen as you drive by, and its also a bit disapointing the you can't use the full post code, from what I've see once it gets you to the street regardless of position it seems to be happy its done its job.

There is still a difference of about 80-60 yards at times when you change direction but I can see it correcting its self a bit quicker, I shall have some time tomorrow to take it a longer run as you mentioned in you last reply.I shall hae to try and find a full set up guide.

But once again thankyou very much for all you help you have certainly saved me a lot of agro without having any instructions to work with.

Kind Regards

Have a look here.....

VW MFD NAVI MANUAL

VW NAVI MANUAL IN .PDF FORMAT

It is a copy of a manual for the VW unit (EXACTLY THE SAME)

The second link is to a full copy of the manual that you can download and view

or print out if you like !!

Hope that helps...

The site is great for any info on the MFD units, I am about to attempt an install myself

Wish me luck! (Any tips/info grstefully received!)

HI Mark

Thanks the Gala wire is in the yellow plug at the rear of the stereo (Violet ), the iso wire convertors from Halfords had the Safe wire & the Ignition feed in the wrong position so when you switch off and back on again you would have to re enter the code.

If you need the part number for the new facia inset let me know(

Fitted it all last weekend...quite an easy job really once all the

parts are together...just playing around with the settings posted by Fredweb.

Mines an earlier Version b that should take a feed from the ABS rather

than the gala. Getting close now though, about 40 yards ahead of where

the satnav thinks I am til the GPS kicks in...

If anyone wants any hints/tips/part numbers/suppliers feel free

to pm/mail me and I'll help out if I can...

Hi, How do you work out the circumfrence, because I checked the 215/55/16 tyres and the table says it's 2020mm.

The reason is because I was thinking of setting mine with 235/40/18 tyres and I'm not sure on the circumfrence.

Cheers Matt.

Pi x D or 3.142 x (15" + (55% of 215mm x2)) or 3.142 x (406mm + 236mm) =2018 approx or in words wheel diameter including tyre height multiplied by Pi (3.142)

OK, it's making sense but how about rolling circumference? do you have to reduce the actual circumference at all?

Cheers Matt.

AIUI the MFD takes tyre wear into consideration, a few mm here or there won't make it too far from accurate as the Sat will update the accuraccy every min or so, even a long journey would only be a metre or so out
