I am about to fit a ford MFD dx into my 2.3 mk1 galaxy 1999, (and before anyone says look at the other entries). I was wondering if anyone has experience in already having done it, to the mk1 as having read through as many entries in the forum as I can find all of them seem to relate to mk2's however on speaking to "Fraud" they indicated that it would fit, with the facia replaced.

1. I have already got a replacement facia for the centre consol

2. My Ford MFD is in the post so i can't confirm part numbers as yet.

3. I have an VW adapter to fit between the loom and the MFD.

The questions I have are as follows:

1. My existing audio equipment is a 2007 radio and ford amp, with the radio removed do I still need the Amp?

2. My car has the remote control fitted on the steering column OEM. I take it that the adapter that you can purchase will fit in behind and allow it to function?

3. Mention is made of using arial adapters to restore the power supply to the booster circuit built into the aerials base is this adapter still required if you are fitting a ford MFD?

4. To fit a MFD to a Mk1 the existing climate contol display needs to move to the bottom of the panel and the facia shape of the display appears to have to change to a rectangle. does anyone have experience of having to change this over possibly to the newer mk2 shape? Is it a case of simply changing the face or replacing the whole display unit.

5. Do you require a replacement rear cradle for everything to fit in, as with the new facia I can see me having to do a fare bit of trimming or does anyone know a part number that is required.

Thankyou all for being patient with this long email.

If any of you have any pictures of your fitting in a Mk1 could you send them to me at the attached email  or even include them in the forum as the MK1 club seems to be under supported in the picture area.

Many thanks

1. yes IIRC unless you install a set of amp bypass leads

2. the adapter sits behind the radio

3. I would say yes? unless the unit was specifically from/for a Galaxy and is pre wired to power the amp?

4. get back to you on this one

5. there is a front and rear panel available, the rear is designed to mount the the mfd unit without haveing to cut it about

not done this conversion as the wife says we dont need it  would be interested in seeing the finished item

I just scanned through the VW parts listing and it shows most of the answers to your questions :) I can sort out the part numbers if you need them?

that would be great, as for the cc i am going to try and source one off ebay i'm looking at the fitting the mk2, but if you could get all the serial numbers and they are to hand it would really make my life easier just think if it works out maybe you'll want to do it to your own!!

anyone else reading this could you go and measure your climate control housing and tell me what the measurements are; outside facia will do.

many thanks to you all

I think from looking at the parts diagram the CC panel stays at the top of the center consule? I dont think it moves down to to the bottom? as the CC panel, the CC mounting box and the rear center consule mounting panel all look similer to the original parts? just a different letter in the parts number!

I'm also looking through my spec sheets and brouchures to see if I can find a Mk1 with the mfd fitted :) so far no luck :)

Here goes, may not be correct parts as these are all VW parts for a 99 Sharan so check to be sure! before you splash the cash :)

7MO 858 089 AB DASH INSERT FOR VEHICLES WITH NAVIGATION SYSTEM

7M0 858 105 K OUTER TRIM PANEL FOR VEHICLES WITH NAVIGATION SYSTEM

7M0 907 040 BA CC PANEL FOR VEHICLES WITH NAVIGATION SYSTEM

7M0 907 047 B TRIM FOR CC PANEL FOR VEHICLES WITH NAVIGATION SYSTEM

I think thats all you need ? apart from a few captive nuts and self tappers, half a roll of insulation tape, a large box of plasters! and an understanding other half that will bring you hot cups of tea while you freeze your butt off fitting it all :)

thanks vr6 again the part number 7M0 858 105 K is the replacement dash facia that I have, so on that basis the others may also fit.

redneck are you able to send a larger clearer picture.

The replacement panel you have, is it curved on the top edge like the existing panel?

no it is square, the panel was from ford so i know i have the right panel. the picture redneck posted shows what appears to be the square climate control panel underneath the mfd. having taken apart the dash today the upper part of the dash does seem to be the right one due to there being more space to fit it in this section

Thats ok then, I have been looking through all my info and not one picture of the mfd in any of them :) it's not even listed in the options either! although I did find a german site that shows how to fit a double din unit in the lower position, but that would be of no use to you as the display would be behind the gear stick :)

for those that are interested in this conversion I checked out the prices at vw for the parts listed by vr6

I know this thread is a year old... but it didnt finish... I was hoping to do this to both my gals..

I figured I'd do it to the one I'm selling too as it might sell it quicker ???

I really wish this had been finished off, I've only been trawling the ICE forum for 3 hours...

What I'd also be interested in.. (my Mk1 2.3 gal is a ghia with the analog heater controls .. can this be done in that ?)

also for the CC panel, was the final solution to use the newer cc panel from mk2 ? and are they interchangeable with the MK1 cc panel ? (in terms of operation)
