linkgreen Posted August 12, 2003 Report Posted August 12, 2003 Hi all you boffins. I've got a problem which I think is MAF related, but the symptoms have changed and I'm looking for advice before shelling out on a new MAF. Gal is '99 1.9TDi with 52K miles. Originally i had poor acceleration and loss of power on inclines. Put a post on here and feedback was it looked like the MAF. Took Fredt's advice (thanks Fred)and took the MAF out and the Gal ran much better. Then cleaned the MAF . On refitting it the Gal was initially sluggish , but at 2500 revs it took off and all appeared fine. Now every time i switch the engine off i have to go through the 2500 revs barrier then everything appears fine, even when subsequently dropping below that level, as long as i don't have to restart the engine it pulls away from junctions etc just fine. This doesn't happen when the MAF is disconnected again, the Gal runs pretty sweet all the way through the range. this has me really confused, but i still think it must be a MAf problem but i can't logically work out what is happening!!! Why is 2500revs so special?? I'm away on holiday to France next week so want it sorted ,but have not got enough confidence to just pop a MAF in and waste all that money. Any one got any explanations??? Thanks Paul G Quote
linkgreen Posted October 5, 2003 Author Report Posted October 5, 2003 Good result to MAF problem. I finally parted with my hard earned cash and tracked down a new MAF. Phil from Lynx automotive in Nottingham (01949 836363) was very helpful and the price was right - Quote
Guest bmellett@dsl.pipex.com Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 hi linkgreen my gal does the same as yours can you tell me if you have changed your maf? and if its made any difference. Quote
linkgreen Posted October 11, 2003 Author Report Posted October 11, 2003 Hi Bmellet@..... I did change the MAf and the results were amazing. Loads of power, free revving engine that accelerates smoothly even uphill, and basically it is a joy to drive again. Looking back the Gal always seemed to lack power getting up to 3000 revs, but I knew no different. It was only when the power really dropped off, and I found this site that I realised i had a problem. I was very reluctant to part with my cash ( I'm from Yorkshire originally!!), but the guys at Lynx were so good and sure about the snag, that I finally did it. No regrets everything now fine. So in the words of the advert "Just do it" Happy motoring Link Quote

linkgreen Posted October 13, 2003 Author Report Posted October 13, 2003 Hi Bmellet@.... again If you read my second post it has details of Lynx automotive of Nottingham. I put a post on the net at an autospares site, and these guys got back the following day. I had a long chat and they were so 'genned up' and knew all the part nos etc, ( they even told me the fault symptoms and a bit about the ecu) plus the price was origiinally Quote
