Guest Wanny Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 Hi all, happy xmas and all that. Went to the GAL xmas eve and started a journey but noticed the brake lights had not gone out on the dash. My Gal is fitted with the bulb checking system so I thought somehow must have blow both bulbs .... Checked bulbs they seem OK. There appears to be no power to the brake lights either side when the pedal is pressed, checked fuse 20 which appears to be brake lights but all was well. Checked brake switch and when the pedal is pressed it measures 14v coming out. The FORD TIS wiring diagram shows the black and red wire coming out of the brake switch then going to the bulb out module but my question is where is it ... can any body please help on this matter. Any help much appreciated Cheers Ian Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 Before you start ripping the dash out, take a look and see if there is power getting the lamp holders? then if you want to check the bulb out module then it's behind the clocks in the dash ps, the bulbs SEEM ok? have you checked the by looking at them or by testing them with a meter or even rigging up a test circuit? I had a duff bulb last week, looked fine tested ok but didnt work! replaced it and all was ok :D looked like the lead solder on the end cap wasnt hitting the contact in the bulb holder! :D I can only sumise that it had worn away from the constant vibration Quote
seatkid Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 When you check for voltage at the bulb holder, find a known good ground point. The stop lamps use a common ground distribution point located at the LH side. If this has become disconnected both sides will stop working and you wont see power at the bulb holder! VR6 is right, you should try new bulbs before you strip your dash.... Quote
Guest Wanny Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 Thanks for the speedy reply, I'll take a look at the common ground and try different bulbs as well. I'll post my results later. Thanks Ian Quote

GSMGuy Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 Sounds more like the infamous brake light switch to me... Mike Quote
