Hi all,

 

Can anyone tell me where I can find the CANBUS socket on a ford Galaxy 1.9tdi ghia (2002)

 

I am trying to fit my new mfd sat nav into the car but having problems with the gala wire. Vehicle position not very accurate when driving over 40mph.

 

And I think that only the ABS pulse will be the solution.

 

I did try and change tyre sizes and pulse per rev settings. (no Luck).

 

I also visited vwnavi.com for some info, but no body knows (cos its a ford)!!!

Your looking for a purple wire behind the stereo for the gala wire. It then only sends pulses per revolution of the wheels.

 

You then need to program in the wheel and tyre size etc.

 

It will learn if you give it long enough apparently though.

 

The CAN-BUS is part of the OBD2 socket I think, you will find it on the bottom of the crash-padding in the drivers side footwell.

Hi and thx

 

The purple wire behind the stereo is the one that I have connected.

 

The wire is called gala and its not working correctly. Do you have any other suggestions.

 

Help??????????? :D

as a profesionally trained sat nav fitter DO NOT USE THE ABS WIRING :D

the gala wiring is spot on so you will need to set up the system

find a long straightish road and drive approx 10miles at a set speed around 60mph

that will set the system but before you start the journey make sure you tell the system where it is

YEP on a Mk1 but on a Mk2 where Mm says

Hi there

 

I have installed the MFD and the purple wire from the back of the radio is fine for the pulse.

You have to set the pulses to 8 but other than that it works fine.

I think this could be the problem. Not sure if it is the model of my mfd but my unit will only go as low as 12 on the pulse per rev settings.

 

Can you also tell me what tyre settings you have got.

 

Maybe there is a way to program the unit to go lower than 12?????

 

Does anybody knows?

Hi

 

Only just found your pm (first day back in office post Xmas/New Year) and are sinking under weight of emails. In short, the MFD should work perfectly satis from just the GALA wire - it is a very intelligent unit and will recalibrate itself very quickly (mine took 3 test trips round the block). Prior to that, I too had lag errors. BTW, when I did change the pulse/tyre size settings, the next time I checked the tyre size had changed itself (which it is supposed to do). You can pick up the can-bus wiring from the climate control plugs immediately beneath the Navi unit - I do not have any of the wiring diagrams with me now but I try and pick them up at lunchtime and post you details.

 

Where did the unit you have originally come from? (ie do you know what car it was previously fitted to). My understanding is that you should be able to set the pulse per min setting to a range of values to accomodate different vehicle hubs but I'm afraid that I do not know which model will cover what ranges - my belief is that the all MFDs (A, B, D, G, etc) can cover all VW, Skoda, Seat and Ford applications where the unit was an OEM option.

 

Will post my connector details later.

Hi

 

Thanks for your input and help, to answer your question, I think my unit is an A or B type MFD because the pulse per rev settings cannot be set lower than 12 pulse per revs and the front does not say MFD after ford navigation system.

 

Meaning that I am not able to set it to 8 like everyone using a gala connection.

 

I purchased the unit on ebay and the chap said that it came out of a 2003 ford galaxy.

 

After having done some research on VW navi forum I was told that A & B version MFD unit do not support a gala connection like other C, D, G...... units.

 

They will work ok using a gala connection but will never be accurate.

 

After being told that, I decided to test the gala cable while driving. What I found is that the gala cable increases its voltage as you increase your speed, but only up to 50mph = 7.5 volts and no matter how fast you drove above 50 the voltage will remain @ 7.5 volts.

 

Meaning that the MFD is recalibrating itself everytime you drive over 50mph by using only satelite data and the 7.5 volts that is being fed to the unit.

wich is making the unit very unstable and not very accurate.

 

Everyone with a Gala connection should try and get on the motorway and drive at 70mph for 10min and get off and im sure that the unit will be very incorrect with its routing/directions

 

I also found out that once the unit has been calibrated, recalibration should only take place when tyre life has changed but not because of speed problems.

 

Sorry to go on so much but about this.

 

We all know that Ford factory fit the MFD to the ABS system, My question is where are they getting the ABS pulse from on a (2001 and above ford galaxy).

 

My next challenge is to find that ABS pulse (CANBUS) and crack the missing puzzle.

 

I am writing an instal manual for the MFD that I will publish on this site once I find that Bl**D S**KING abs pulse wire or cable.
