mark1rev Posted December 28, 2005 Report Posted December 28, 2005 hello every 1 i have just changed my air filter on my 2.3 gal and there seems to be a smaller filter in the corner onder main filter ? is this right as the bit in there was all rotten and wet with oil and water ? i have put a new sponge in but not sure what its for Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted December 28, 2005 Report Posted December 28, 2005 If the sponge is above/blocking the small breather pipe that enters the lower half of the airbox them it's ta pre filter to stop all the oil spray/moisture from the engine reaching the main filter element and contaminating it! if its next to the main air inlet then its a pre filter to stop all the large lumps of crap the engine sucks in doing the same  Quote
mark1rev Posted December 28, 2005 Author Report Posted December 28, 2005 is any sponge ok for this Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted December 28, 2005 Report Posted December 28, 2005 As long as it's not to fine a filter? if it blocks to easily or melts due to the heat/contact with oil/petrol fumes then it should be ok? if possible try and get the OE replacement or even run with out it if your worried! add a section of pipe to the vent hole and angle it down and away from the main filter to stop the fumes hitting the filter directly Quote
Topbloke Posted December 28, 2005 Report Posted December 28, 2005 most of the main suppliers (ie Fram, coopers) usually supply one in the box !!!!!! Quote
