Guest allen-uk Posted December 25, 2005 Report Posted December 25, 2005 I'm thinking of joining the Galaxy owners, and on looking at 2nd hand prices of oldish models (1997/8), it seems that 5-seaters go for several hundred quid less than the more common 7s. Is this usually the case, and does it reflect the fact that a 5-seater will probably have done less heavy work than a 7? I'd value your opinions. Allen, London. Quote
seatkid Posted December 25, 2005 Report Posted December 25, 2005 Is this usually the case, and does it reflect the fact that a 5-seater will probably have done less heavy work than a 7? In that case wouldnt it be the other way round? Its because the seats are expensive. and difficult to source. 7 seats is more desirable than 5 seats. Quote
Guest land rovers suck Posted December 27, 2005 Report Posted December 27, 2005 i own a seven seater, it's f****ng ace  go for the seven it offers you more choice, you might never use them all but like seatkid said ' there expensive and hard to find' as for 'done more work' does it matter really? if it still looks clean and tidy and the engine doesn't sound slappy or knackered buy it.what you really after a 'galaxy' or a van :P Quote
Guest MATT Posted December 27, 2005 Report Posted December 27, 2005 if you have the 7 seat, you could take out the 3 middle seats, and have 4 seats, with masses of leg room! MATT Quote
Masked Marauder Posted December 27, 2005 Report Posted December 27, 2005 The woman who lives next door to me does home-working. Her boss bought a Sharan, took all the seats out of the back and used it as a van. Three years later when he sold it the residuals were proportionally much higher than a second hand van. So the number of seats is totally irrelevant to how much work it has done. That one was worked to hell but had an immaculate rear interior. But in short, you can take seats out if you don't need them, but you can't put them in if you need them and don't have them. Quote
wonkydog Posted December 27, 2005 Report Posted December 27, 2005 What seats are we talking about? you could say there are any number depending on what type of seat you have and what mounting places they are clipped into. I have for some time known that there are different widths of seats depending if they are meant to be fitted in a 3 or 2 wide seat arrangement (ie two row seats are wider than three row seats, Captain seats? armrests?). And that, under the carpet there are, at least two rows of seat mounting points for all combinations. So, it could be a 6, 7 or 8 seater(unless I have missed something or you don't take any seats out to make room for luggage!) Quote
GSMGuy Posted December 27, 2005 Report Posted December 27, 2005 Wonkydog, all the seats (for the rear) are the same width regardless of if it is a 5.6 or 7 seater... But on the 6 seater, they tend to be placed further inboard on the next set of mounts... Mike Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted December 27, 2005 Report Posted December 27, 2005 Actually WD's correct, the 6 seater seats are wider but only due to the arms ;) these are essential  if you've tried to use the none armed versions in the inboard positions? you end falling out as there is not much lateral support ;) Quote
GSMGuy Posted December 27, 2005 Report Posted December 27, 2005 BUT, the seats themselves are the same width..... Mike Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted December 27, 2005 Report Posted December 27, 2005 Aye ;) but as stated the extra width is due to the neccessary arms, IIRC the rear most two seats are handed and are a one arm and a two arm job due to the rear heater unit where WD gets the eight seater idea from I'm not sure though? Quote

Guest allen-uk Posted December 28, 2005 Report Posted December 28, 2005 Is it just me, or does anyone else think Galaxy owners are some of the most argumentative people around? Van or car? Nah, I'm after a cart for my horse, really, so I can collect more old iron. Thought the Galaxy would suit, as it's getting into old banger territory now. Anyway, sorry to have disturbed the fight club. I'll go and see what Zafira owners are like, I think. Allen. Quote

wonkydog Posted December 28, 2005 Report Posted December 28, 2005 8 seats, two rows of three, driver and front passenger. Or am I wrong? ;) Anyway for the record I have a 6 seater, yes some of the seats have one arm and some have two. Hadn't really thought about why until I discovered that my car has the extra heater. I have to turn the stereo up in this weather! ;) Quote
zed650 Posted December 28, 2005 Report Posted December 28, 2005 Is it just me, or does anyone else think Zafira owners are disturbed Allen.mmmmm Popcorn (check) Comfy seat (check) Beer (check) Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted December 28, 2005 Report Posted December 28, 2005 Comfy seat (check) Out of interest which one? I fine the third row left to be rather hard and go for the middle row right, which has started to bed in nicely ;) plus you get a fold out table for your beer and a drinks holder in the door pocket for storage for your next beer  what more can you ask for? ;) Quote
