Guest mikefv1 Posted December 23, 2005 Report Posted December 23, 2005 Hi.Just bought my wifey a v6 jan 2000 galaxy - LOVE THE CAR!!However the remote only worked on and off for the locking/unlocking. I had new battery's fitted, and now it will not work at all! though the light flashes on it.Can the key be reprogrammed by my self, or is a Ford plug into the computor job? I tried the procedure of holding any button for 1 second, and then turning it in the door, but it still does not work. Any help appreciated.regardsMike Quote
bigdaddy Posted December 23, 2005 Report Posted December 23, 2005 Do a search this as been covered many times Quote
bigdaddy Posted December 23, 2005 Report Posted December 23, 2005 Here i found this for you from seatkid :o According to Ford the procedure is as follows...... Remote Transmitter Programming (410040) Note:A maximum of four remote transmitters can be programmed to the generic electronic module (GEM). Programming must be carried out at the same time for all the remote transmitters. Note:Before attempting to enter programming mode, make sure that the vehicle battery is fully charged and that the anti-theft alarm system is not armed or triggered. Note:If the programming mode ends with no new remote transmitters programmed, remote transmitters originally programmed are retained by the GEM. Note:After the first remote transmitter has been successfully programmed all the previously stored remote transmitters will be erased. Note:The GEM will exit programming mode automatically if four remote transmitters have been programmed or if no new remote transmitter has been programmed within the 15 second programming mode. 1. Close all the vehicle doors. 2. Note:Make sure the door lock cylinder is held in the unlock position for more than 0.5 seconds. Insert the key into the driver door lock cylinder and turn the key from the rest position to the unlock position three times within five seconds. 3. The door lock light emitting diodes (LED)s will illuminate for 15 seconds during the remote transmitter programming mode, allowing the remote transmitter to be programmed. 4. Remove the key from the driver door lock cylinder and aim the remote transmitter at the interior rear view mirror. 5. Press and hold the LOCK button on the remote transmitter. 6. While holding the LOCK button down, press the UNLOCK button three times on the remote transmitter. 7. Release both buttons simultaneously. 8. Make sure the door lock LEDs flash five times, confirming that the remote transmitter has been programmed. 9. After a remote transmitter has been successfully programmed, the GEM will reset the programming mode, allowing a further 15 seconds to program the next remote transmitter. 10. To program additional remote transmitters, repeat steps 4 to 8. 11. Make sure that all the doors lock and unlock, confirming that the GEM is no longer in programming mode. 12. Test all the programmed remote transmitters, by activating and deactivating the locking and unlocking functions. Quote

Guest FlyingDutchMan Posted December 24, 2005 Report Posted December 24, 2005 Have the same problem i.e. the remote doesn't work. Tried the mentioned procedure but nothing happens; no flashing light on the door, also not when locking the car. The key has a red light when pressed so there seems to be juice in the key batteries. Tried teh alarm and that is working. Anybody any idea's that can be of help? Thanks in advance.FDM Quote
clink Posted April 22, 2006 Report Posted April 22, 2006 Will this work on a R reg 2.0l GLX? The fob has only one button instead of two. Quote
Masked Marauder Posted April 22, 2006 Report Posted April 22, 2006 If you only have one button then the fob is a torch, not a remote. Quote
hotleaduk Posted May 7, 2006 Report Posted May 7, 2006 This worked for my 1997 Seat Alhambra 1.9Tdi. Quote

AEG Posted January 3, 2007 Report Posted January 3, 2007 Our remote key stopped working so I replaced batteries and reprogrammed the key as shown on this forum. Worked perfectly for 24 hours then stopped working again and won't re-program. Any ideas? Thanks Quote
jvernon Posted January 3, 2007 Report Posted January 3, 2007 The transmitter in your key is probably broken. Mine also stopped working some time ago so I replaced the batteries. The red LED in the key lights up but it doesn't actually transmit anything. I know this because at the time I programmed my sisters working key into my car and it worked fine ;) Perhaps you can get someone to lend you their key for a bit so you can test that the car end of things is alright? If you do borrow a key - remember to program it back into their car for them when you've finished ;) Regards,James Quote

Since then it has worked a couple of times but generally it doesn't work. The thing is I only have one key with a remote built in and one normal key without a remote. I've tried the above proceedure and it all seems to work, I can get the door lock LED to flash and then the remote fob to flash etc but it still doesn't lock/unlock the doors. Is this because this proceedure is to sync a second remote and requires at least one remote to be working with the car. Is there any way to get just one remote sync'd with the car without paying Ford Quote
NikpV Posted December 24, 2007 Report Posted December 24, 2007 Is this because this proceedure is to sync a second remote and requires at least one remote to be working with the car. procedure doesnt need one remote already programmed to work - done this on my car. (- several times usually after someone hes held the lock button whilst pressing unlock 3 times out of range of a car  - ) Quote
Bouncy Pete Posted December 24, 2007 Report Posted December 24, 2007 (edited) Thanks for the reply. Here's the story so far. When I turn the key in the door 3 times the door lock LED comes on. During this time I hold the lock button on the key fob and press the unlock button 3 times, release and the key fob LED blinks but the door LED stays steady. When the door LED goes out the key fob fails to operate the central locking. Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong? Edited December 24, 2007 by Bouncy Pete Quote

Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong? ok it looks like its getting in to programming mode (door lock led comes on) but there is no eveidence that the car is receiving the signal when the remote buttons are clicked - light on the key will flash whether the car is in programming mode/present at all. Take your remote into a ford dealer and ask them to check it - they have a little reciever for this - if the transmitter is knackered you could buy a blank key from ebay and just swap the key blade over - Easy if is the standard (non flip key version) Quote
NikpV Posted December 24, 2007 Report Posted December 24, 2007 BTW if you have any mates witrh remotely operated gals get them to try programming their /working key to your car - easy enough to program back if its a working key Quote
Bouncy Pete Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 Thanks for the advise. If I buy a remote key from Ebay I realise I can just transfer the blade from my existing key. It also looks like there is a removable black chip inside the key fob. Do I just transfer this to the new key fob to make it work the ignition? Quote
timmyspicyman Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 Here's a question for you? What do you do if your driver door lock barrel is knackered? That's the situation I'm in at the moment. Very annoying, as it means I have to go the rear, or passenger side of the car to lock/unlock. Quote

v.m.transport Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 Hi Ive just brought my 2001 Galaxy TDI with only 1 key. Can i buy a second key off EBAY (With new blank blade) or will i have probs with immobilizer chip? Many thanks in advance Quote
kmac Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 Here's a question for you? What do you do if your driver door lock barrel is knackered? That's the situation I'm in at the moment. Very annoying, as it means I have to go the rear, or passenger side of the car to lock/unlock. Are you sure it is the barrel? I have the same problem with my driver door lock - but it could just be the paddle that's broken. This is a little peice of metal that turns as you turn the key in the lock.very easy to check - open the door - the hadle is held by a screw (torx). Undo the screw carefully making sure it doesn't fall into the door. Then slide the handle towards the front of the car and pull the barrel out of the door. Then slide the handle back and remoce the front. Now you have the handle out you can check if any of the little parts connecting barrell to mechanism are broken. If they are your optins are - 1) buy broken bits from VW dealer as Frauds will want to replace entrie handle2) replace entire handle, includes barrel - problem is you will have spearate keys for the driver door comapred to other doors3) swap passenger handle with driver door handle4) install remote locking so you don't haveto use the key Quote
Hasilpuri Posted April 25, 2008 Report Posted April 25, 2008 I have just bought 2002 galaxy it came with one remote key and 1 wallety key. I was wondering if i can buy a another remote key from ebay then program it my self, can it be done? Quote
NikpV Posted April 26, 2008 Report Posted April 26, 2008 item 7 in the faq reccomend that you get another key because you can program the pats as well whilst you have 2 - saves an Quote
