davewill Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 Just out of interest. How many miles would you expect to get out of a set of front brake pads? My warning light is back on again (2002 TDI) and i have done approx 20,000 miles on this set. Is this normal, or are my size 11's too heavy on the old pedal Quote
tim-spam Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 Could be the rears this time? Quote
davewill Posted December 23, 2005 Author Report Posted December 23, 2005 Not the rearsHad those done only 8000 miles ago Quote
Guest neil_wiles Posted December 23, 2005 Report Posted December 23, 2005 The design of the brake pads are such that if the discs are worn the edge left behind cuts into the sensor wireas and prematurely sets off the warding lamp. Check the depth of wear on your discs as this may be the problem, this is more pronouced on the rears where the retraction of the piston is somewhat slower than on the front. I have just completed 35k miles on my recently installed rear pads and they still had 3mm of material left but the wear on the disc had indeed cut the sensor to indicate wear. Merry Xmas. Quote
Masked Marauder Posted December 23, 2005 Report Posted December 23, 2005 There really is no need for wear indicators if you service your car regularly anyway, but as said above if the disc is worn, then the lip of the disc can cut through the wire prematurely. Quote
pompadour Posted December 23, 2005 Report Posted December 23, 2005 HiHad my 40,000k service yesterdaycambet and all that merry stuffstrange thing was the fraud squealer called me to say my front pads were 50% worn and that they may need changingasked if it was nessessary and he said it was policy to ask if 50% or less standard policy to fish for extra un nesessary work to be done more like Quote
