KP 115 Posted December 19, 2005 Report Posted December 19, 2005 does anyone happen to know the thread size of the drain plug on a 115 ps TDIas i'm looking at a modification . diameter , length, tapered or parallel would be very useful  Quote
bigdaddy Posted December 19, 2005 Report Posted December 19, 2005 KP 115,,,,,,Hi and welcome to the forum,,,,,sorry I cant help with the info you seek,,,,,but I am curious about the modification you are planning  Quote
Masked Marauder Posted December 20, 2005 Report Posted December 20, 2005 It is a straight cut, 22mm long, M14, with a 1.5 thread pitch. And my guess is he wants one drilled and tapped for an oil temperature sender. Quote
KP 115 Posted December 20, 2005 Author Report Posted December 20, 2005 Thank you for the information as soon as I have details, is it the same for mk1 & mk2 s ? :( Quote
Masked Marauder Posted December 20, 2005 Report Posted December 20, 2005 No, the non-PD engines have a drain plug that is 16mm long. Quote
KP 115 Posted December 21, 2005 Author Report Posted December 21, 2005 is the drain plug in a recess in the pan or flush to it ? Quote
Masked Marauder Posted December 21, 2005 Report Posted December 21, 2005 Mine sits flush to the actual sump, but there is a plastic sump protector on it too. Quote
marinabrid Posted December 21, 2005 Report Posted December 21, 2005 is it possible to do a modification and make a hole or trap door to the plug to save taking the cover off each time ? Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted December 21, 2005 Report Posted December 21, 2005 It can be done but no sane member has done it so far! only DaveG  http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/uploads/post-62-1080583249.jpg Quote
Guest marcusheawood Posted December 21, 2005 Report Posted December 21, 2005 ...Mines still off BTW, absolutely NO slippage! :o  :o :o Quote
KP 115 Posted December 21, 2005 Author Report Posted December 21, 2005 What I am lookin at is a purpose made drain plug that incorporates a spring loaded ball valve, so doing away with the need to remove the plug to drain the engine oil, & yes the do make a type that enables a tube to be attached to it to allow routing from difficult to reach places but this could cause problems with ground clearance! for a look at the product (www.fumotovalve.com) it's only available from the USbut at $27.00 dollars shipped to the UK + Duty. I had a supplier in the UK but deleted the link & they now tell me they will deal direct with me, anyone interested ! Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 Isnt the sump plug on the side of the sump on the TDI's? Quote
Masked Marauder Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 It is indeed, it is at the middle back at the lowest point. Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 So there's no problem then with ground clearence in this case then? Quote
Masked Marauder Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 None at all. Indeed if you hit your sump plug your already in very big trouble.... Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 None at all. Indeed if you hit your sump plug your already in very big trouble.... OOOPS! :o I manage to bottom out my undertray daily :o there is a nice dip in the road leading into the village where we live that does a nice job of testing how good your fillings are glued in each time you hit it  I dont think I'll fit one of these valves on my Galaxy Quote
