CraigB Posted December 19, 2005 Report Posted December 19, 2005 Hi All, I'm sure this topic has been covered ad infinitum but here goes. My '97 Galaxy TDi Ghia X has only one black key. No reds were provided when we bought the car. A couple of years ago after the kids got locked in by the daft central locking system closing itself with the one key in (great bit of design Mr Ford), I purchased a new key from a Fraud dealer. They couldn't cut it so off I went to the local locksmith who did the job. Only then did I find out from the Fraud dealer that I needed two black keys or the original red key to be able to program my new key. So my question is can I get my keys working ? Could I use a laptop and an ODB cable with suitable software ? Or is there another cheap solution ? Thanks in advance Craig Quote
Masked Marauder Posted December 20, 2005 Report Posted December 20, 2005 You need a chip to go in the key, or a new key with the chip in. Then using VAG-COM get the immobiliser serial number and take it with your log book to your dealer and ask them for the 4 digit immobiliser code. Then using VAG-COM program the new key. The other way is to take it to a dealer and ask them to program it or a specialist locksmith may be able to help. Quote
CraigB Posted December 22, 2005 Author Report Posted December 22, 2005 Hi Masked Marauder, Thanks for the information, when I bought the key I got one with the electronics built in, is this enough or do I need an additional chip ? I've gone to ebay and bought an OSD cable and various bits of software, including, I think VAG-COM. I presume I still need the info from the Fraud dealer regarding the immobiliser code ? Thanks again Craig Quote
Masked Marauder Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 Yes. Unless you have anything with a 4 digit key programming number written on it. Quote
