when I switch off the ignition and the car has been running you can hear a faint ticking noise. Even when the air con is off..any ideas?

You're probably hearing the wind-down phase of the booster heater. This carries on for a minute or two after you've turned the engine off. Early ones make quite a loud tick but some are quiet and you won't hear them with the engine on.

Or it could be your aux water pump.

But I'd go for the booster heater myself.

Either way, nothing to worry about and plenty written on both subjects elsewhere on this site - just use the search engine.

i suffered with the same noise and a technician at ford said it was normal.

it was something to do with the car resettings itself it is situated inside the engine compartment at the right hand side at the back off the engine.

it is a metal square box shape thing.
