Guest Bigtone Posted December 17, 2005 Report Posted December 17, 2005 I've got a problem releasing the bonnet catch on my 1997 Galaxy, it would appear that the cable has either been stretched or has become snagged on the bonnet catch, either way I can't get the bonnet open. Does anyone have a way of opening the bonnet from the outside? Quote
Masked Marauder Posted December 17, 2005 Report Posted December 17, 2005 Try having an assistant pull the lever whilst you pull up on the bonnet. If that works then adjust the rubber bonnet stops that are either end of the slam bar. Quote
Guest Bigtone Posted December 17, 2005 Report Posted December 17, 2005 I tried what was suggested in the previous post, still can't even get the catch to release. Bonnet is stuck shut, need some way to release the catch so I can get to it and repair / replace if necessary Quote
bigdaddy Posted December 17, 2005 Report Posted December 17, 2005 You could try and remove the cable at the pull handle part,,,,then grip the cable end in some pliers and give it a good pull,,,,,,last resort would be to break the grill off,,,and try to open the catch with a screwdriver or some thing like that,,,,,,good luck Quote
marty16610 Posted December 17, 2005 Report Posted December 17, 2005 I did this for a neighbour a little while ago. His cable snapped at the release handle end. I managed to remove the two bolts that hold the lock on, one from underneath (reach up behind the rad with a spanner) the other through a small hole i made in the grill (socket and extension bar). The bolts go in from opposite sides and the inside one is a bit fiddly to get to but possible Quote
Guest stevebm1 Posted December 18, 2005 Report Posted December 18, 2005 I had this with mine, turned out to be inside the car where the release handle is mounted, the screws which mount the handle, screw into plastic rawl type plugs, which are crap.I got a friend to weld a piece of metal over the original mount holes and then re drilled and mounted with better screws and it now works fine.I managed to get the bonnet open beforehand however by reaching up from underneath the car,so it is possible, just fiddly and your arm gets lagged in oil/grease Quote
