seatkid Posted December 25, 2005 Report Posted December 25, 2005 I think you need to think about buying a new car or at least a new engine. do a compression test, to check your piston rings and valves are still there..... Quote

Guest qunvat Posted December 26, 2005 Report Posted December 26, 2005 Yes I was fully aware of it all B4 buying. I've bought lots of cars and spent 5 years working on various classics (I've a 260z as well) though my knowledge of modern cars is not great. The cars' got a full years MOT and is very drivable, apart from the fault described....its fine for daily use but obviously if (if) the problem is fixable I may try to get it done. Or just buy another cheap car if and when it becomes UNdrivable. It seemed to make a difference when I topped it up with the correct oil (5/30).....I'll do a compression test soon and post the results here. Thanks,Si p.s a petrol engine. Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted December 26, 2005 Report Posted December 26, 2005 Haveing the wrong oil in it may not have helped! if the oil was to thick, wrong grade! the hydraulic tappets may not have been working fully untill the oil warmed up and thinned out a bit! give a fewdays with the correct oil in and see if that helps? if it does it may be worth while doing a full oil change?
