I have a 1999 2.8 V6 GLS with an intemittent fault on the wiper circuit.

Sometimes and for no apparent reason the wipers start and won't stop when the engine is switched fully on. The only way to stop them is to pull out the fuse (No 33).

When the ignition switch is turned to the auxilliary position, the wipers work correctly (park, slow, intermittent and fast positions) but as soon as you start the engine, the wipers start.

I have found (eventually) the relay boards and as soon as I dropped it down the wipers started to work correctly so, I thought that I had disturbed something and that it would now be OK. Two days later it has happened again.

The fault is now intermittent in that sometimes if you start the engine, everything is fine. Other times, off they go again.

I noticed from other posted messages that wipers seem to be a costly reccuring theme but can anybody help on this one?

This is a quote from 'Honest John' in his car-by-car-breakdown on the Ford Galaxy.

In the 'What's Bad' section...

'Water gets into wiper motors, corroding them. New motors

El Dingo, Thanks for that info because I cannot understand how the wipers will work perfectly normally (especially parking OK) and the jump to a "won't stop" condition the next time you switch the ignition on

Any follow up to this? I have the same problem, wipers won't stop once the engine is started. Note that when the ignition is on but the engine is not started, the wipers don't start (but I guess they are part of electircs that are shut off during starting). Doesn't seem like a motor problem to me.

The fast/slow setting works.

It happened once before about 4 years ago but when I turned on again the next day it was fine, and has been fine since.

Following up my own post, it's back to normal now for no apparent reason. I think it can switch into "always on" mode after the engine is turned off while the wipers are still moving (though I'm not going to test this theory in case they get stuck on again).
