The heater has stopped working on my 2000 ford ka, the pipes to and from the valve both get hot and appear to be warm on the heater side of the valve, we have flushed and drained the coolant and replaced to no avail, any further ideas?

Set the heater to warm and feel the pipes to the heater in the engine bay near the valve, do they pulsate? no? heater valves u/s or loss of power to the valve, check fuses, switch operation

yes? valve, switch ok  fault lies elsewhere! heater matrix blocked? air lock?

Does anyone know of cheap places I can buy genuine Ford Ka parts from? I'm sure you're aware of how expensive Ford garages are.

I've just found a nicely priced valve and bought it. I just noticed a thread saying a special service tool is needed. What is this tool please? And what's it for?

ooooh :o you need the special tool to do the job or your stuck  nah only kidding :D the tool needed or not as the case maybe is the one used to undo the pipe clips, the silly spring clips that you can undo with a set of pipe grips :P but I didnt tell you that :P

OK, thanks. It's best to sort things out cheap, especially when the people at the garage are so rude, unfriendly, and just want to overcharge you for everything.

I hope changing the valve sorts it. I'll post back if it does, just so others with the same problem find it of some use.
