rushy Posted December 10, 2005 Report Posted December 10, 2005 I'm looking for a decent air filter and exhaust for my VR6. Got overtaken by a very nice sounding Golf VR6 earlier and I quite fancy having the Gal sounding the same!!! Will a filter for a Golf VR6 fit my Gal?? Where can I get a sporty sound exhaust?? Thanks Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted December 11, 2005 Report Posted December 11, 2005 There are a few exhausts available or the Galaxy, Projectztwo do a nice twin pipe straight through rear box :D of which I have one :P the Sebring one is very similer if not the same box click here  IIRC Jetex and Remus also do a rear box for the Galaxy as for filter kits there are a couple of members that already have them fitted on their VR6, Sharanfx has one most kits for the Golf/Passat VR6 should fit with a little work? there are a couple of Galaxy specific kits available click here :D Quote
Guest marcusheawood Posted December 11, 2005 Report Posted December 11, 2005 ...Chaps, oiled cotton or foam filters are a really pants idea on vehicles with MAF's just upstream. Your MAF will be kernackered within weeks if it isn't already on the way out! Try a BMC CDA system, apparently they're worth the wonga (and they're listedfor MAF proximate fitment). I like the ProjectZwo Exhaust tho' (missed brand new one on ebay about 2 months ago, went for Quote

YEP! this is more applicable to TDI's and 1.8T's though? there have been several articles in the VW motoring press about 1.8T's with filter kits and dead MAF's :P not sure if the MAF is so important on a VR6 as I ran with mine disconnected for several days and never noticed any difference in performance  and yes I can tell when a MAF dies as I have suffured six failures so far on my VW T4/5 TDI's :D luckily I dont pay for them :D Quote
Guest marcusheawood Posted December 11, 2005 Report Posted December 11, 2005 ...Well, I think you are right VR6Gal, I don't think my MAF works either...but I was only advising caution (Besides the BMC unit is SO much better for BHP anyway). After all these MAF's all work the same way....BADLY! Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted December 11, 2005 Report Posted December 11, 2005 I'm not sure the Maf operation on the VR6 is as important as it is on TDI's as the air flow is also monitered by the position of the throttle opening? my mates 1.8T Bammer has eaten two MAF's so far in the last couple of years, both caused sudden losses of power and drivability  he runs the standard ir box, he knows when it's happened as he can no longer spin the wheels in third in the dry! Quote
