Guest RickRalph Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 The heater inside my car is faulty, it will only work on the highest setting (4). About a year ago the third setting on the heater control stopped working, then last week 1 and 2 stopped working at the same time. A funny burnt smell came out of the heater at the time much like when a fuse blows. At first I though it could be the fuse however, the fan still works on setting 4. Can anybody tell me what the problem is ? and how it could have been caused ? Thanks
Guest vr6galaxy Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 Resistor pack, hit the search engine full instructions and photos on how to find it and replace it IIRC
Guest RickRalph Posted December 5, 2005 Report Posted December 5, 2005 :D You were right, the blower speed resister has melted. The Location of the resister on the Ford KA is in the passenger foot well. The actual location is just above the floor mat, it's black (approx 8cm and 4cm wide) with four wires coming out (the first set of wires you come to). There is one screw holding it in at the bottom. After reading around it turns out that the highest setting (4) is actually a direct feed and therefor not affected. Two of the wires had melted and had come free, I broke away the plastic to get the other two wires free, took it to the Ford garage who sold be a new one
johnb80 Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 If your aircon is leaking into the passenger compartment you have a blocked drain somewhere. You should find it well down on the firewall and usually has a simple valve (rubber flap), these can stick or get blocked with leaves etc. Regards - JB
