Guest Sword Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 I have a question about the Rad Fans on my Sharan VR6. One of the two fans on the front seems inoperative at any temperature. I decided to see if the fan was at fault so wired up direct to the battery. The fan started immediately. The left fan seems the problem fan (furthest from Battery). What and when do the fans kick in. The right fan kicks in when my temperature reaches 3/4 on the dial and the temperature drops to 1/2 on the dial soon after, but this other fan refuses to work. Could it be a sensor as it does work with direct current. Can someone explain the function of each fan individually for me. Thanks Quote
malcolm.dobell Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 it's possible the 2nd fan comes on only if air con is on. Current car only has one fan, but recall more fan noise on old one when air con was working - worth a try. Quote
Sharanfx Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 Check the two large cartridge fuses in a small black box at the back right hand side of the engine bay. These are the Fan fuses as well as other aux items, 60A I think? If these are ok there could be a fault with your fan switch which is mounted on the right side of the rad.I recently had to change on of these on my VR6, as the fans were only comming on at high speed before slow. This causes a surge and blows the fuse. Hope that helps a bit. Quote
