JDF Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 Hi All, Sorry if this has been covered before...... We have a problem with water ingress into the clock well within the headliner. :D It only seems to happen with very heavy rain, like this morning in Surrey. My wife said the water poured out of the headliner this moring as she drove out of the drive and off down the hill. Our Mk1 GLX does have a sun-roof, but it is fully closed. We have removed the clock temporarily to help it dry out. Any ideas on were the water is getting in, please and how to fix it ????? Cheers in advanceJ. Quote
chromedome Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 The sun roof has drain holes on both sides that run down to the front door pillar. These sometimes become detached or get blocked. To unblock them use a piece of net curtain wire and push it carefully through the drain holes. If you still get water ingress you may have to lower the head lining to check that the drain pipe is still attached. Hope this helps. Quote
greg_68 Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 There are probably 2 drain tubes fitted to the front of the sunroof that run down the A posts and drain out by the front wheels. There may also be some at the rear of the sunroof. Check to see if these are blocked. Quote

JDF Posted December 2, 2005 Author Report Posted December 2, 2005 Hi Again Chromedome, Curtain wire sounds a good idea - flexible but rigid at the same time, I take it that it does fit?Another quick question for a numpty like me - "If I got a long enough length 6-7 foot, would I be able to see the free end once its comes out the bottom of the drain hole - in the wheel arch or will the plastic liner obscure it???" Cheers againJDF Quote
chromedome Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 Someone had a similar problem to you some time ago. The curtain wire does fit and it did cure the other persons problem. I don't know if you'll be able to see it though. As regards the roof lining, I haven't got a clue. Perhaps someone else on the forum can help. Try the blockage fix first before removing the roof lining. Quote

Cheers againJDF Plastic liner will obscure the drain outlet, as will the rear bumper for the rear outlets, easiest way is to undo the bolts holding the liner to the outer arch and prise it away enough to get your hand in, you should then be able to see/feel the drain outlet? you will most likely find the blockage is at the drain end?
