johnb80 Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 Yep I'm back :( not driven the VR6 yet :( making do with the 130 TDI  and yep the flaming begins :( as for my valid contri :( take a look at the active topics and see how many of them are reposts? then see how many of the same people are replying? and how many of those replys are totally pointless post saying ooh I had that once or my old 2.3 did that....... I bet if people actually spent a few minutes and used the search engine they could find the answer to their questions several times over and other posts, info on similer topics that may be a help to them? but no they start a new topic and the same muppets reply spouting the same mindless drivel and boost their posting numbers :( grumpy me? nah just been here a long time and seen the same old topics regurgatated several times over and answered by the same people time and time again....................... Well it's nice to have you back even if you are just a tiny bit sensitive.....! By the way, I've got this funny jet like noise appear from the back of my TDi :( Regards - JB Quote

Guest MATT Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 been looking on the tuning box website, and found this one: Galaxy 1.9 TDI Injector Pump current BHP = 115 torque = 310NM with tuning box, BHP = 150 Torque = 360NMso i would want the ref "PX" lookie only problem is, it doesn't say how much, so will look into local dealer... Guest MATT Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 i think its the IP SERIES TUNINGBOX i want? (scroll down to bottom of page) is this the one others have got? and does anyone know how much this unit is? been reading the FAQs, and from what has been said here, i may well get one, depends how mucho. still a bit concerned about the autobox though. :( MATT Quote
Guest marcusheawood Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 ...Mate, ffs! You're not going to rip your gearbox apart and wrap the monocoque round the transaxle ferchrissakes. You aint going to be running 12s down the 'Pod if you know what I mean!!!!!!! Quote
Guest MATT Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 ...Mate, ffs! You're not going to rip your gearbox apart and wrap the monocoque round the transaxle ferchrissakes. :( :( :( ok, so i have no need to worry about destroying Quote
Bigjeeze Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 And what are you going to do with all this extra, low cost, low consumption power then?Pull a train? Quote
Guest MATT Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 well, with a bit of luck, it might go a bit better off roundabouts, and tow my caravan better. MATT Quote
tim-spam Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 I think I've read somewhere (possibly on this forum) that the Jatco auto is a little marginal with 310 Nm of torque. If this is the case, increasing the torque may lead to some problems, so it may be worth doing a little more research into what the torque capacity of the auto box is. Quote
GSMGuy Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 Tim - you are correct, the Jatco is rated at 325 nm... But running it so close to the limit isn't healthy.. Mike Quote
Guest MATT Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 the Jatco is rated at 325 nm... :o i thought it was rated at 400NM? so, if its rated at 325NM, i am not going to get one of these tuning boxes, no way. i don't want my auto box giving in. so i guess i will have to hope it runs better after its service... MATT Quote
GSMGuy Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 I was given that figure from the guy who rebuilt my box - TWICE, he looked it up in his tech manuals... Mike Quote
Guest MATT Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 GSMGuy: are you sure the rating is 325 and not 400NM? MATT Quote
chromedome Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 If I remember GSMGuy put one of the gadjets on his Gal and he got through two gearboxes. There may be a reason why the auto only comes in 115PS from Ford!! Quote
delboyt Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 was thinking the same steve can these thing's be used onpetrol engines as i wouldlike to get more power & economy Quote
widu13 Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 Yep, you can get one for both engines. Quote
Guest MATT Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 yes, but GSMGuy also said that the problems started BEFORE he added the speed buster. is it possible that they changed the auto box at some point? MATT Quote
Guest marcusheawood Posted December 4, 2005 Report Posted December 4, 2005 Will someone please explain to me why Ford not fitting the five-speed Jatco Autobox to the higher output Diesels in the Galaxy range is suddenly the cause of a major conspiracy theory about gearbox fragility? ALL the PD engines fitted to this car are rated at 310 NM peak torque. My guess is that because of the greater thirst and poke of the higher output motors, a 6 speed manual only option is available to improve economy and more importantly performance (most auto drivers are looking for easy pulling power), clearly the turbo provides slightly more boost (and therefore the ECU injects more fuel) above the 1900 RPM peak to maintain this torque for longer as the revs rise, after all peak power is still 4000 RPM on all these engines. I would be AMAZED (...and absolutely horrified) if the Jatco box were rated (MTBF) for any less than 400 NM constant load (i.e. pulling max. towed load uphill), after all this gearbox is a sealed for life jobbie! GSMguy was VERY unlucky, the second failure may have been attributable to bad work done the first time (wait 'til his Tip goes tits up). Don't kid yourselves about dealer standards and warranty work, I know for a fact they get gearboxes reconditioned and refit them under warranty to get it done quicker and cheaper. If it fails again then they may fit a brand new one (ordered on spec. usually longish lead times). It's a lottery, and if the Manufacturer doesn't have a box in the country then they'll tell the dealer to source it elsewhere. When the new box originally ordered eventually comes in then they can just send it back to the depot or on to another dealer who may need it. No cost to the francise though. Sometimes they have to actually take YOUR broken gearbox to the reconditioner, and then get it back to re-fit it. The reconditioner will simply replace a standard raft of items and run a few tests, they often miss stuff like micro fractures because they don't crack detect everything (are you kidding?). I stand by my statement that a decent chip mod will not affect gearbox longevity, ask AmD if you're worried: http://www.amdtechnik.com If they don't know then it's un-knowable, OK? Quote
Guest MATT Posted December 4, 2005 Report Posted December 4, 2005 Thanks marcusheawood. my thought was, the reason they only fit autos to the 115 model, is because of costs. most cars in this country are manuals, and so the cost of being able to have auto on all 3 models of engine was not counteracted by the number of automatic sales. so instead, the deal is: if you want an auto, you can only have the 115. I'm probably wrong, and like marcusheawood says, to have such a small margin of torque (325 - 310 = only 15NM) and add the stress of towing a caravan up a steep gradient... so, will have to check what rating it is, thanks for the link marcusheawood. johnb80 Posted December 4, 2005 Report Posted December 4, 2005 It wouldn't matter if you were trying to pull a house up a mountain 310Nm is 310Nm it wont produce anymore. :D Quote
seatkid Posted December 4, 2005 Report Posted December 4, 2005 It wouldn't matter if you were trying to pull a house up a mountain 310Nm is 310Nm it wont produce anymore. :D unless amplified by your torque convertor.... The torque convertor can and does multiply torque when it slips Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted December 4, 2005 Report Posted December 4, 2005 The 115, 130 and 150PS diesels all have identical "official" rated torque outputs, so I'm not sure why it is only offered on the 115. As an aside, the Alhambra is shortly to be offered with VW's "new" 2.0 PD TDI engine, which is offered with the DSG gearbox in many other VW group cars. Wonder if the Alhambra (and maybe the Sharan) will be offered with this engine-gearbox combination ? Quote
