Faulty Brake Lights

HI, can any one help me out?

I have a 1977 2ltr Ghia and when I came into work this morning my brake lights warning indicators were both on. I thought this very strange that both bulbs should blow together.

 

So I got a colleague to check the lights with me to see if the working or not. And sure enough both light where no working. Then after a bit more pressure on the pedal they came on.

 

Then after messing round for a few minutes they worked sometimes then not others. So it looks like I have an intermittent fault.

 

The question is does anybody know where I should start looking for this fault, could it be I just have dirty contacts some ware.

The switch at the top of the pedal is the usual suspect. Do a search, it been covered many times.

Agree with Andrew T,,,,,,the brake light switch is the culprate,,,,,,buy from GSF,,,,,easy repair,,,,15mins tops,,,,good luck :)

For a couple of Quid I not realy bothered.

 

But I rung Ford back and they said if I give them

oh and where you get this 1977 must be worth a fortune !!!!!!!!!!!! lol

Any way all fixed now, took them about 20 mins to replace the switch.

after reading faults on here i done my switch this morning;

 

part has been modified from black unit to a green one, cost about 8 quid from ford.

 

removed fuse box cover, triangular panel by pedals..old switch was turd to undo but new part flew in !!!

 

took about 20 minutes

 

so repaired tailgate loom broken inside rubber gaiter as well to sort reverse lights faulty
