Guest treppid Posted November 23, 2005 Report Posted November 23, 2005 Hi all! First post from Newbie concerning ABS fault on my 1995 Sharan 1.9 Tdi, hope that's ok on this forum?Shortly after getting the car the ABS warning light came on, investigation revealed the ABS 'bracelet', the bit that goes round the CV joint, had corroded until it parted company from the joint and seized. A gentle tap and it broke in half and fell off! Imagine my surprise when my local dealer informed me that this part is not available as a separate part, the ABS 'notches' are now machined into the CV joint, consequently I will have to replace a perfectly good CV joint to get the ABS to work again, can this be right!!Cheers..... Guest marcusheawood Posted November 23, 2005 Report Posted November 23, 2005 Yes it's true! However your phrase 'perfectly good CV joint' may on closer examination prove not to be the case.Shalaxys are hard on these joints and yours may well actually be pretty worn (esp. on a 1995 car). Quote
Steven.Langdale Posted November 23, 2005 Report Posted November 23, 2005 I'm pretty sure thats the case I'm afraid :) Steven Quote
Guest treppid Posted November 26, 2005 Report Posted November 26, 2005 Thanks to all. Yes I feared this might be the case. Should be getting it fixed on Monday so I'll see what state the joint was in! Thanks.... Quote
Justice Posted November 26, 2005 Report Posted November 26, 2005 I have an abs ring kicking about somewhere, I took it off a nackered CV after reading the same thing about a corrosion problem in a post a few months ago. Quote
