Guest TDiAds Posted November 21, 2005 Report Posted November 21, 2005 My gal was in for some warranty work week before last namely air con (condenser, ambient temp control flap, ec unit and regas), squeaky brakes (which they changed for new disks and pads all round for free  ), and also a new glow plug on the aux heater due to copious amounts of smoke (felt like james bond in his db5 with smoke screen) but anyway I thought that the aux heater kicked in below 11 degrees or whatever it is and if the cooling system was below a certain temp, but after the cooling system warms up I would presume that the aux heater would shut down again, this is not happening at the minute I went for an hour and half drive a couple of days ago to give it a good run and the aux heater still sounded like a jet engine when I got home, can someone just confirm this is normal and does anyone know why, surely this isnt economic as it would use diesel for no reason once the engine temp can support the heater on its own. although after speaking to my dealer they say this is normal.....but it wouldnt be the first time theyd try to tell me b*llox Quote
widu13 Posted November 21, 2005 Report Posted November 21, 2005 On your model it can be turned on manually, if you haven't done that then yes it should switch off. Quote
Guest TDiAds Posted November 21, 2005 Report Posted November 21, 2005 you cant turn mine on manually, mine has the climate control package where the button for the aux is there is the demist button Quote
johnb80 Posted November 21, 2005 Report Posted November 21, 2005 The aux heater can't be turned off manually. It is quite normal for it to be running all the time if it's cold outside and your driving is relatively gentle, the engine just does not produce enough heat to keep the Galaxy cabin warm. On my Gal it will start up when the temp is less than 11 deg and the water temp is less than 90, it stays on with normal driving i.e. 40 - 50 mph when the temp is 0 or below outside. Increasing the speeds to 70ish it will eventually go off but comes on again as soon as I slow down. Regards - John Quote
