Guest gornall Posted November 17, 2005 Report Posted November 17, 2005 I have a one year old Galaxy TDi 1.9 which has done 25,000 miles. The steering has always been very erratic as it skips about and follows ridges in the road, unevenness caused by roadworks and changes in camber. The car seems to steer itself at times. The dealer says they can't find a proble. This is my fourth Galaxy and the others didn't have this steering problem.Anybody else with the same problem or any ideas? Quote
Andrew T Posted November 17, 2005 Report Posted November 17, 2005 Does it have the same make/type of tyres as you've had previously ? I've noticed a tendancy to this type of behaviour with ours, and wondered if it's down to the high pessures demanded for the 16" Reinforced tyres. The earlier models on 15" wheels require much lower pressures for normal running. Quote
chromedome Posted November 17, 2005 Report Posted November 17, 2005 I too have this vague steering. This is my third Galaxy. The other two had the Dunlop tyres and there was no problem, this one however has Michelin tyres so, as Andrew T says, I put it down to that. Quote
Guest gornall Posted November 24, 2005 Report Posted November 24, 2005 Yes, all my previous Galaxys had Dunlops, this one has Michelins. It just seems too severe to be tyres. I need to change them soon though so I might find an improvement. Quote
widu13 Posted November 24, 2005 Report Posted November 24, 2005 My then 2 yr old Gal was found to have a torsion bar with play in it which was replaced. I don't know if this is a Gal problem? Quote
bigdaddy Posted November 24, 2005 Report Posted November 24, 2005 Mine does the vague steering bit as well,,,,and my renault espace done it as well,,,,I thought it was down to the width of the tyre,,,,,more sensative to ruts and lines on the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) :) :) Quote
Masked Marauder Posted November 24, 2005 Report Posted November 24, 2005 If your steering is vague then get the tracking checked. If it is found to be fine then get a half a degree of toe-in put on it. Quote
chromedome Posted November 26, 2005 Report Posted November 26, 2005 Just checked the tyre pressures on my Michelins. Inflated them in accordance with the the table on the car (41psi front 38psi rear) and I no longer have the problem. They were under inflated by about 5psi per wheel, that's how it came from the dealer. Quote
