jimjamjo Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 There's a squeaky noise at low revs from the drive belt area, I've just rebuilt the diesel engine after 160,000 and changed the belts and it's still got the same annoying squeak!! Is it worth changing the water pump at this mileage - it may cure the squeak? Also, the Haynes says that you should only use new coolant with new aluminium parts - my coolant has only done 200 miles - would it still be ok? Cheers Paul Quote

Masked Marauder Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 No, that pump will not do for your engine chap. Pumps are not expensive though, from a factor your looking at about Quote
jimjamjo Posted November 16, 2005 Author Report Posted November 16, 2005 It looks very similar to this one which fits the 1Z engine:http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...item=4589145005 and both have the VOLKSWAGEN GOLF MK1 1.6 DIESEL-09/80 listed? I got two quotes from my local factor for a Unipart pump - it was arount Quote
Guest neil_wiles Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 I got my water pump from a local dealer who only listed it for an Audi A4 1.9 TDi it also came with or without housing. To fit the housing youhave to remove all the timing belt and all the front casings, however just fitting the pump impellor and front plate took only about an hour in total. Most non OE pump replacements are badly listed for this model. Quote

I never removed the timing belt when I did mine, I removed the alternator, air-con compressor and hung it out of the way, air-con compressor/alternator mounting bracket, power steering pump, drive belt etc, and then the pump housing. It took hours and thats with air tools and ramps. Quote

jimjamjo Posted November 16, 2005 Author Report Posted November 16, 2005 Hi MM - yes thats right Partco was one Factor that quoted me for the Unipart pump. I was going to say that the timing belt was a bit of overkill - I've just started to sleep at night after the feeler gauges in the back of the cam fiasco a few weeks ago!! So there's no need to buy the housing as well as the pump and it's actually easier to fit without a new housing? Quote
Masked Marauder Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 If your taking off the housing then all you have to do is unbolt the pump from the housing, take the old one off and replace the gasket and bolt the new one on. An extra 10 minutes. If you are doing it the other way with the timing belt and backing plate off then you won't be removing the housing. Quote
