Do you own a diesel? If the answer is yes then check it's not smoking (unless you lit your pipe before pulling on your stringback driving pants, although they might be on fire too!)

    • Yes (I'll check my auxillary heater and post if I'm still confused)

    • No (I have a petrol and British winters don't worry me)

    • Yes I get 70 MPG (I'll check that those pants are fire retardant)

    • No (normal motoring costs don't worry me, I have a job)

People driving diesels either bought them or they were given them, you can tell the difference because one is doing 65 in the middle lane shaking his head sadly at the other one overtaking him at 95.

You'll know when it's too late because in a moment of clarity...

Need anyone say more?

I own a diesel - in fact I own 2. I don't smoke a pipe or own 'driving pants'.

My booster heater is not working but I'm not confused as reading the excellent information on here I know how to sort it out.

I'm the one hurtling past at 95 but still getting 35mpg, paying less to the insurance companies than I would if I would have got the v6 I nearly bought.

I have a job too! Wow, it's amazing how much in common we have

Perhaps we could have a Technical Sub-section just for TDi Models (or booster heaters)?

My booster heater has always worked perfectly, produces plenty of heat and rarely produces any visible smoke. Sounds good too.

As for the comments about performance, I think they belong in the annals of ancient automotive history.

So let me pose this question for you:

Do I drive 7 miles home from work on a route that allows me to usually get about 40mpg,

or go home the same route that I drive into work, about 4.5 miles but only getting around 32mpg because the traffic is so bad in the afternoons?

Yes, I think so, but........

Anyway, I think I've changed my mind - booster heater's a crap idea. Much better to spend an extra

There have been sightings of some petrols fitted with auxilliary booster heaters...........worst of both worlds?

That said it was -5C this morning and it must have taken 10 miles for the engine to reach working temp, so perhaps I could do with one.
