purplemadboy Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 How noisy should my engine be?Mine has a deep growl,as much as a deisel can growl. But a Sharan passed by and it had a nice sound ,much softer than mine and I could hear the turbo whine,no chance of hearing it on mine.It goes in for its first service(interime)2000 miles should I say anything? Guest MATT Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 mmmm, have you tried opening both the front windows fully, then at a junction somewhere, accelerate hard, you should hear the "turbo" whistle, but i think the growl is much sexier! MATT Quote

Guest blatters Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 The TDi VW sourced engine is a bit rattly from cold and also when pulling away from standstill. But once up into 3rd gear + you should not really hear the rattling in the cabin. And at cruise speed all you should hear is road and wind noise. I find the best gear to hear turbo whine is 3rd and 4th. Not a bad noise and not very intrusive. There is a little low down growl but not much. Frankly, you know this unit is a diesel when  cold, sitting on idle and B) pulling away. It's not as quiet as a Peugeot HDi unit and the magazines state that the VW engine is a bit rattly low down. Your car may settle down with a bit more mileage. If it really bothers you then ask the dealer to let you listen to another Galaxy. Blatters Quote
