Hi, my car has developed an annoying rattle from above the headlining on one side. Has anyone got any ideas how to fix it? or should I try and get it fixed under warranty and risk the dealer making it worse?

Make the dealer fix it, if they damage it, they fix that too.

It is probably a cable flapping against the roof under the lining. Have you had an aerial fitted for a car phone or similar? More often than not when these are fitted they don't bother to tape the cable to the roof so it rattles and drums.

It sounds like a cable flapping, but I've never had anything fitted and the headlining has never been off.

Johnb80 - I tend to agree with you, but my recent experience with dealers is that

1 they deny knowledge of there being a fault

2 if they accept it they deny knowlege of being able to fix it - When I went back with a door that didn't shut easily - the service manager said, what do you expect from a production car that rolls off the production line every 60 second - these aren't hand made !

3 - they cause more damage whilst trying to fix it

if the headlining is easy to remove, then i would do it myself, as dealers cause more problems than what they solve.

as for

"the service manager said, what do you expect from a production car that rolls off the production line every 60 second - these aren't hand made "

i would say "i would expect the door to shut properly"

I said something along those lines - maybe a bit stronger and added that if they made so many, maybe they could swap it with a new one. He eventually agreed to look at it - I'd have to book it in for a day as the job would take some time - I decided it wasnt worth the bother as they'd probably make it worse or break something else - took it home and armed with a Torx bit fixed it in about 60 seconds!
