Atf In Manual Gearbox

I've done it now so fingers xd!!

 

Just picked up 2 litres of oil for my manual gearbox from the local VW dealer. I was surprised to find that it was ATF so I asked and the guy double checked and said it was the right fluid for the box.

 

Anyone else come across this or is it going to conk out in a couple of weeks?

Not according to the TIS is is not. The fluid is different. MTF should have been used.

Thanks but I checked back with them and they still seem to think it was the right one which I suppose is more reliable than using a Ford spec oil?

 

I've also put a request in with VW tech support 01908 679 121

 

The oil is part no G 052 162 A2 and it clearly says that its for VW and Audi automatic gears on the bottle.

What year is your car and is it a five or six speed box?

Its a '96 5 speed.

I thought the 5 speed gearbox was not introduced until the facelift in late 2000?
