Guest proof Posted November 9, 2005 Report Posted November 9, 2005 Hello chaps,1st time on here.I have a 2.3l GhiaX with CC and the RHS electric cooling fan has just been replaced this week after screeching like a banshee. 2 days after I get the car back the LHS fan is now screeching. They are not cheep to replace and I really dont think they should both need replacing at 70000 miles. Is this a common problem? I also have a noise from the starter motor on start-up. But at the moment its intermittent. It also occasionally makes a noise when I am riding the clutch . Could it be i am mistaken and its the clutch bearing ?? Thanks. Quote
Masked Marauder Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 Yes, that is far too soon for both the fans to fail. Normally a screech from the clutch housing when the clutch is pressed is a dry release bearing. Quote
Guest proof Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 Well, there isn't much I can do about the fans and the same goes for the clutch bearing (if it is that) . Its just that the whole vehicle seems to have taken on a 'baggy' feeling over the last 6 months and I feel its not good enough . It seems that all my Fords are the same, give them 3-4 years and it all goes a bit saggy. I might try something else next. But don't worry it won't be an Espace, I drove one and it was the pits compared to the Galaxy.Maybe French roads need suspension like that but I couldn't live with it. Anyway, looks like I have a few more expensive repairs coming along. By the way how much is the bearing to replace roughly ? I suspect its a good idea to do the clutch at thesame time? Thanks for the reply.Cheers, Quote
Masked Marauder Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 Yep, the gearbox has to come off. Quite frankly I would put up with the bearing unless it was screaming at me. Quote
Guest proof Posted December 5, 2005 Report Posted December 5, 2005 I've had the screeching noise checked and it apparently sounds like starter motor not clutch bearing. So don't need to mess with the gearbox. It should last for ages making that noise. I hope so. Quote
Vince Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 I had the two cooling fans fail in the same sort of way on our 97 2.3 Giha X - they are not cheap, but Fraud was the lowest price. Vince. Quote
Scorpiorefugee Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 Are you sure that they didn't just swap them over? My right hand fan was screeching somewhat a month or so ago. It was getting a lot of exercise because of a problem, now solved - I hope, but I gave it a good dose of neglect for a few weeks and it gave up complaining and now works beautifully. Just out of interest, how do you get one to come on in this weather unless you've got the same silly fault that I had? Ron. Er.. Are you looking from the front or the back and does it really matter? Vince Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 I changed mine myself, so can confirm they both failed within days of each other. Vince. Quote
