Andrew T Posted November 11, 2005 Author Report Posted November 11, 2005 Clearly you are very out of date, take a look at the performance figures especially 31 to 62 mph in top gear and you will see just how well modern diesels perform. What we are talking about here is the differance between outright performance and flexibility (where a Diesel would be expected to excel). I'll wager that a 2.3 would be faster from say 30-80 through the gears faster than a 115 diesel, which would need at least one extra (time consuming) gear change. Also according to Fords own website the 115 does 0-60 in 13.8 Secs not 12.8. Quote
widu13 Posted November 11, 2005 Report Posted November 11, 2005 Just a "what if"! Change that 115 to a 130 or even a 150 flavour and how do things shape up then? Quote
johnb80 Posted November 11, 2005 Report Posted November 11, 2005 Nah, come on be more sporting you have to give the weakling petrols a chance. Obviously these petrol heads like stirring that stick, shoving the needle to the redline, white nuckles on the wheel, throwing their passengers around to get to the next petrol station first. Get real you lot, just how long do you spend accelerating ? 8 maybe 10 seconds ? wow you might just have got there a whole second quicker just think how satisfying that is......... whilst you're at the pumps refuelling as we drive by 15 seconds later waving <_< To me there are only 2 REAL choices the VR6 for out and out performance but again the same statements apply or Diesel for the superb economy which can't be denied. Guest vr6galaxy Posted November 11, 2005 Report Posted November 11, 2005 Obviously these petrol heads like stirring that stick, shoving the needle to the redline, I'm getting use to driveing an auto :o I'm also enjoying the kick the 5.7 V8 gives when you floor the throttle :D it's a shame the limit over here is so low that using all the power available is not possble! the traffic cops are everywhere, the roads are crap, and the vehicles all handle like a stuck pig after several pints, they wallow that much they all come with sick bags <_< not that I want leave but I do miss the UK roads they are so much better than the crap out here! and safer! gregers1 Posted November 11, 2005 Report Posted November 11, 2005 great idea driving with a potental bomb, but i think your find it could be against the law to store more then a few ltrs of fuel, not that im trying to shoot you down in flames just be careful.oh and dont smoke. regards gregers Quote
Guest MATT Posted November 11, 2005 Report Posted November 11, 2005 lol. even i would be concerned lol MATT Quote
Guest blatters Posted November 11, 2005 Report Posted November 11, 2005 Gregers / Matt, Appreciate your concern but you just feel the same as my wife & son did at first. When you've done a couple of runs yourself you soon settle down. I tend to think of myself as a bit of a 'tanker' driver now - a childhood dream come true <_< In all seriousness, safety is paramount for me........I'm only planning to use the roofbox in winter when the outside temperature is cold. Summer temp gets up to 35c so the roofbox would be too risky, even for an experienced tanker driver like me. I switch the aircon on in the cabin (17c setting) to keep my 'little investment' chilled. Anyway, diesel doesn't ignite like petrol - that's the point I'm trying to make in this petrol vs diesel thread. You'd need to be completely bonkers to do it with a petrol Galaxy. The earlier lads haven't factored this into their Quote

GSMGuy Posted November 12, 2005 Report Posted November 12, 2005 Welll... My new Speedbuster arrived today for the merc... So now I have 202bhp and 470nm torque @ 1850rpm.... Mated to a QUALITY 5 speed box.... What more can I say other than... 0-60 clocked on GPS tonigtht @ 8.1 seconds and 50-70 in kickdown at a fraction over 4.5 secs...... Oh and yep, seen the wrong side of 135 on the M58 tonight too........ So petrol or diesel???? no comparison... esp coupled to a decent auto box and 4wd....... Not bad for a car that weighs a touch over 2 tonnes! Mike Quote
El Dingo Posted November 12, 2005 Report Posted November 12, 2005 It will never happen, too much of our infrastucture relies on diesel i.e. buses, lorries etc. The problem is lack of refining capacity for diesel, due to rapidly increasing demand. (Oh poo! I've just re-read and edited - I meant price not duty.) Quote
