15" Steel Wheels Won't Fit All 16" Equiped Galaxys

We all thought that some 15" steel wheels from an old shape Galaxy would fit my 16" alloy equiped new shape '53' model.

Yes, I know the manual says they would not but we tried them on a 2001 facelifted TDi Ghia first (fellow owner from Leeds who was kind enough to offer them on this site for free) and the dealer had done these swops before.

But............after collecting them, refurbishing them etc etc. they don't fit.

The brake callipers on the front wheels are too big. Everyone is suprised but something has changed and the brakes on the front wheels of later Galaxy's must be bigger.

So my winter tyres are gonna have to wait a few days yet until we find some rims to mount them on.

Take care if you're thinking about the same situation. The Blatters' family week of motoring crisis continues.

Hi there,

How are you?

Don't you worry, I know you tested them and my dealer confirmed that they would fit at the time. They even confirmed it last Friday (just before I refurbed them!) when they examined one and measured the bolt holes.

The bolt holes are ok and they fit on the back wheels but won't fit on the front.

In all fairness, I can laugh now - do you want them back? I've cleaned 'em up for you, rust treated them, primed and sprayed them - lovely in black.

All part of the service :D

I'm going to get some Continental Winter TS810's and, when they come and are mounted, I'll be happy! How sad is that?

Doh! it's been posted several times before about the increase in size of the brake disc's and calipers on the later models  maybe now you will believe it :D
