jimjamjo Posted November 2, 2005 Report Posted November 2, 2005 Is there an easier way to get this engine back in than raising the front of the car? A garage got the engine out and I towed it home and rebuilt it. I've got a 3 tonne trolley jack but that doesn't raise the car high enough to clear the head. Is it easy to get the front panel off? Masked Marauder Posted November 2, 2005 Report Posted November 2, 2005 Can you not recrut some mates to lift it? Short of that you may have to hire an engine hoist and use that to lift the car. Quote
jimjamjo Posted November 2, 2005 Author Report Posted November 2, 2005 I've got a crane which is good for 1 tonne - will that do the job? Quote
jimjamjo Posted November 2, 2005 Author Report Posted November 2, 2005 Bit disappointing - I was hoping someone could shed some light on the work involved in removing the front panel and bumper assembly? I've seen a Galaxy in a garage with this removed and it means you can walk the engine in from the front on a trolley. Quote
sledgeweazel Posted November 2, 2005 Report Posted November 2, 2005 HI you should have no problem removing the front bumper, radiator, air con rad, head lights, indicators and so on I have removed the engine subframe and suspension in one, the ony problems is you have to break the air con pipe work this will need refilling.for me the best place to start was to remove the indicators to get access to the front cover screws then remove the front cover be carefull it is cliped into the head lights then remove the headlights, bumper, drain all coolant, air con, power stearing, dissconnect the front pannel connecting pipework air intake, radiator, air con, power stearing, remove bonnet release cable dissconect cooling fan's, air temp sensor rad temp sensor check all is free you should be able to remove the fron main pannel Quote
jimjamjo Posted November 2, 2005 Author Report Posted November 2, 2005 Hi Thanks for that - I might use it next time. This time I went with the advice to use my engine crane and jacked up the front of the car about 85cm which was enough to squeeze in the engine on a wheely trolley. Any higher and the crane starts to move around! With the crane I used 2 tonne tow rope ( Quote
