Guest SA Intruder Posted August 7, 2003 Report Posted August 7, 2003 It wasn't the hose to the servo unit. The servo unit is driven from the camshaft vacuum pump, nothing to do with the intake. The pipe you replaced was likely the one to the EGR valve, which are problems. Quote
Guest Porker Posted August 7, 2003 Report Posted August 7, 2003 I reported the loss of power on an earlier post. OK from start then maybe a mile later dropped down as if a switch. Two MAF sensors later (no difference but under warranty), they are telling me it is a manifold pressure sensor and will have to go back in again. Still at least they fixed the Aircon in time for this hot weather. Quote
kevinp Posted August 26, 2003 Report Posted August 26, 2003 :P Having just done 1000 miles+ through the Yorkshire Dales, my 1998 1.9TDi (110) behaved impeccably coping with all the hills etc. However, obviously not wanting to return home, my previously reported loss of power returned on the M11. Limited to about 60mph, I pulled off at Stansted and turned the engine off for about 3 mins. Started up again and all is once more hunky-dory! (I was hoping the fault would still be there so that I could disconnect the MAF sensor). QUESTION: is it OK to remove the MAF connection while the engine is still running? When school hols are over (relief) and I have completed several work trips to Newcastle (by air, not Galaxy), I will investigate the various tips given (including removing MAF & cleaning EGR) hopefully to get to the root of the problem. Guest PaulS Posted August 26, 2003 Report Posted August 26, 2003 We bought our 1998 S Reg Galaxy 110 Tdi from a Renault Dealer (trade-in) a couple of months ago, it had 62K on the clock. Anyway my wife, who usually drives it, noticed it seemed like there was a power loss on it and when we went away I noticed it to, about 3000 revs in 4th, sounds familiar? Took it back to the Renault Dealer with some postings from this forum, they basically rang the local Ford Garage who said that it was such a common fault that just order a new MAF Sensor and you'll be fine! They said it wasn't even worth bringing to them to check. (Apparently it doesn't show up as faulty on any diagnostics as well). So another Galaxy gets another MAF Sensor this Thursday, fortunately under Warranty! Apart from that and the pain getting those seats out! we have been really pleased with it, thank god for Air Con as well this summer! Quote
Guest PaulS Posted August 30, 2003 Report Posted August 30, 2003 Follow on....Took Galaxy in for fitting of MAF sensor, waited 10 minutes, took it home, now runs fine.... Quote
Jim Posted December 30, 2003 Report Posted December 30, 2003 I have just got a 115BHP Auto Galaxy and have to say I am really impressed with engine performance for a car that size. Anyway, my MAF is abviously fine, but I also have a 110BHP Passat and it has been suffering for a while with loss of power (actually about 12 months). This is most noticable going up hills and when accelerating hard - car will still do 80+mph on flat without too much problem. My questions is, can I swap the MAF from the Galaxy into the Passat to test if it is the MAF that's at fault? Will the MAF in the 1998 110BHP engine, be the same as the MAF in the 115BHP engine? Is GSF the cheapest place to buy a new MAF sensor? Thanks for your help. Quote
