When I bought my Tdi 2001 few weeks ago the seller claimed that the car has ASR and do not have Alarm.

How can I be sure that I have ASR? It does not seem to be obvious however I see creeping wheels very rarely. Certainly it better then my previous car (Vauxhall Astra break) but it could be due to better tyres on Galaxy.

The seller said I have no alarm. However when the car is locked the red LED in the door is flashing. Also I thought alarm is standard for facelifted Gal.

What shall conclude?

Are you by chance French? Is your car French-specification, or are you in England and is the car English specification?

I do not think that ASR has ever been fitted as standard to the Galaxy TDI in UK - not sure if it could have been purchased as an extra when the car was new.

Also in UK - I think that the Zetec and Ghia specifications include alarm, but not the base model - although I think it can again be purchased when the car is new.

The easiest way to check if you have an alarm is to sit inside the car, lock it with the remote then after a few seconds, move around in the car and see if the alarm goes off.

Hi if you lift the bonnet look at the top right bonnet hinge

If you have an alarm you will have a switch just below that hinge

the arm will make contact as it go's down.

Red light in door Transponder immobilisor indication.

If alarm fitted interior sensors have about 30-40 second delay before going into operation.

Well,

Ivor, my galaxy was sold in Austria.

Fredt, I am not sure but I think that ESP is called traction control. But I do not have this feature. For this I would have dedicated ESP button on radio/clim panel.

ASR is based on the reduction of power when wheels start to creep. But certainly this does not work on 100% in practice. As I said, it seems to be better when driving on grassy hilly cart road (to get to my house) comparing with my previos car.

HJT, it it certainly good idea. How shall I stop the alarm after if really start to be noisy??

Alarm Man, (authorized person)

yes, there is such switch. Does it prove the alarm existance?? I know the switch because the dash comp beeps when the bonnet is opened.

Cheers, V.

SA, I am sorry but you completely failed!

May I also ask you a question?

You are very familiar with Galaxy. I would say, if you would open a garage tomorrow, many people of this forum would come with their Gals may be even me, in spite of long distance!

Cars are not only your hobby, I am pretty sure that your job is somehow related to cars reparation.

Am I right?

...perhaps he's Czech? (or if he runs a Galaxy, a very large cheque)

(V - this is a pun on English words!).

I am not particularly familiar with the Galaxy per se. I am reasonably enthusiastic about them, though, and that is why I am on my second one (actually I had a Sharan, now an Alhambra, both from new.)

I work with (electric) Trains more than cars. I am an electronics engineer by trade, although I don't get involved in detail these days; my Company also designs electronic control systems for "Industrial Engines" which gives me an insight into engine management in one form or other. I am a member of the IEE, which allows me to share experiences amongst my peers in other branches of the trade.

One of my hobbies is rebuilding engines and the like, though I have several car projects on the go for myself during the year.

I have also built 2 "Kit" cars in the past, which allowed me to incorporate some fancy electronics, and tends to teach you about vehicle wiring and equipment through actually doing it. Particularly as I loomed them both from scratch.

I tend toward the mechanical side more than body/interior. I have a couple of friends who get stuck in with me. I can rebuild various engines and gearboxes, including conventional autos. I also enjoy motorcycling in various forms, including the mechanical side.

So, you Polish or what?

Thanks for your reply SA, it was interesting to read.

By the way, we have quite similar education.

Electric trains.... when I was in UK, I remember some jokers droped down on the rails a bike, you can imagine what happend after...

Stop rolling a globe on the carpet, Ivor was right.

So there. Your member name does not sound "eastern european", as you can tell from one or two of us.

Assuming you live where you say, what's your experience of your local repair/service emporia? It is as bad as the UK?

Posted

My nick has origin in France, it is the name of the mount near Avignon (take a globe back please), I think more less every Tour de France passes over this peak....

As for repairing I am rather shocked by the level of servicing in UK - it looks as the same!!

I have Gal recently, I just went to authorized garage or service (as we say) only once to install so called "defend lock" (you know it, I guess).

The price was ~226Euro (OK, not so bad) but:

1) it was difficult to gear #2 and #4 after mounting - they said "after some time it should better"

2) they lost the steering wheel locking arm (you understand what I mean) which was on the carpet in the car: they claimed "we never saw such thing in your car"

The arm is obviously useless without right key, they simply lost it.

May I trust them?

So I am just in a phase "looking for reliable garage" but someone has told me recetly "skilled people do not work at authorized dealer!"

My god the list is endless i forgot the question

Yes you have an alarm unless it is an elaberate warning system

Sit in the car and lock it to deadlock via remote control

leave 50 seconds and then release bonnet via inside catch

if it go's off disarm ( open ) via remote control .

Alarm test over

warning alarm easily overidden by forcing lock.

Alarm No good!

solution FIT A GOOD ALARM SEPERATE.

And yes i have fit alarms for over 9 years .

And yes i work for myself not any company ( no way )

Regards Ian .

By the way not advertising for business just helping the public ( your honour )

I think Ventoux has the quote of the week/quote of the year:
