mrunlucky Posted October 27, 2005 Report Posted October 27, 2005 Hi all, I'm new to this site, (and any other forum for that matter) so please forgive me if I get this wrong. I have read a few threads about the problems with flashing glow plug lights, and I also have this problem, but added into the equation is the fact that I've no reversing lights either.I have just returned from the garage where I bought the car. It recently had the MAf sensor done, (approx 3wks ago) and since then I had no heater or panel lights. This was sorted today and now I have trouble with flashing plug lights and no reversing lights. The car actually runs better since having the Maf done as it was gutless before. Please can anyone tell me if the swithches talked about in other threads affect not only the glow plug light, but also the reverse light? Quote
Tigger Posted October 27, 2005 Report Posted October 27, 2005 Just for info. does your glow plug light stay on all the time? and does it come on at start up? Quote
mrunlucky Posted October 27, 2005 Author Report Posted October 27, 2005 Light comes on then goes out when started. After short while light comes back on and flashes. Many thanks for the reply Tigger. Quote
soptom Posted October 27, 2005 Report Posted October 27, 2005 The reversing lights not working tends to usually be caused by the switch on the gearbox wearing down and will need to be replaced , try holding the gearstick fully over in reverse and see if they work then, this would confirm the switch being faulty.Search for reversing lights in the tech section for more detailed info, as for the glow plugs, sorry, ours is a petrol drinker. Tigger Posted October 28, 2005 Report Posted October 28, 2005 I have had this twice.Mine was the brake pedal switch. I could turn the engine on and off to clear it. it happened about half an hour into a journey. You don't have to change switch. the second time I just cleaned it and everything was ok. Have you checked this out yet? Quote
mrunlucky Posted October 28, 2005 Author Report Posted October 28, 2005 Thanks guys for all the replies, but had to take car back to garage this morning in order to let them have the headache.I was going to show the mechanic the lack of brake lights, but as I started the car up, it reved up and I/we heard a loud rattling/jingling which is almost screaming when you rev the car. I asked him if he had any ideas as to what it may be, but he was as puzzled as I was. Anywayz, I left it wiv him to sort out. Once again, thanx guys, and if any light gets shed on this, I will let you all know for future reference. Quote
s2will Posted October 28, 2005 Report Posted October 28, 2005 Well thanks to all previous contributors on this subject! I've had the flashing light for a week now - no brake lights - funny how that makes you drive very aware of who might run into your behind. Bought a new brake light switch yesterday ( Quote

My brake light failing was indeed the switch in the footwell, the reversing light switch is as per my other post. Quote
mrunlucky Posted October 29, 2005 Author Report Posted October 29, 2005 Hi soptom, the original question was about the brake lights, reversing lights and a flashing glow plug warning light. However, I picked the car up from the garage yesterday eve, and the mechanic said that he'd replaced a fuse and since then everything seems to be working as it should. Except now I have a faulty temp guage that seems to work when it wants to. The high revving and high pitched rattle at start up has not happened again as yet, and until it does I have no answers for it.Many thanks for the replies. :D Quote
Manxman Posted October 30, 2005 Report Posted October 30, 2005 Hello. I just became a Galaxy owner 2 weeks ago and am happy to stumble across this forum as I am sure to need your help and advice on occasions. Just to shed a little light ( pardon the pun) on the flashing glow plug light malfunction, it seems the glow plug flashing indicates a fault on the electrical system. The petrol engine versions show a pic of an engine unit. I had a problem which I discovered to be a faulty airflow meter with the help of a small garage nearby, whereas the main ford dealer insisted there were no faults on my car because the glow plug lamp was not flashing. The symptoms were very poor torque and having to change down the gears to regain some sort of power. The part will arrive Monday so I hope it gives the otherwise perfect car a boost. Oh, has anyone tried one of these chips as seen on ebay to apparently boost the power of a 115ps galaxy to 140ps? Maybe not worth the risk ? All the best.KF Quote
