Well guys

I finally managed to change the side light bulbs in my 2004 Gal.

I thought a chimney sweep would have a better chance of actually reaching the lamp holder on the drivers side, but I have succeded I think !

What I need to know is what is the obviously an air channel that runs up the inside of the inner wing on the drivers side, it partially obscures the access slot from the inner wing ?

Oh and one other thing how the hell am I supposed to refit the slidey cover in the inner wing liner as it "came off in my hand g'vnor" ?

Depressed but illuminated Neil.

The general consensus on these forums is that it is far quicker and simpler to remove the headlamp assembly from the front of the car to change bulbs.

As I found out earlier this year, it's easier to change the sidelights with the relevant front wheel removed. Not sure how to re-fit the sliding cover as I had no problem with mine. You do need long, slim fingers and strong wrist muscles to change the bulb though - there's not much room inside the aperture once the cover has been opened.

I was only able to refit the light access cover properly on mine when I undid the wheel arch liner to remove the front bumper to fit fog lamps.

I know it's a bit late to say this for some folk but...........

I have sprayed a little of that silicon white grease stuff along the joints of the sliding cover.

It struck me that with all the mud, salt and grit that gets plastered in the wheel arches this might be a good idea before it is too late.
